So agree on your take that game awards should be in January. For all the reasons stated.

Yeah I think TGAs have influenced release dates too. I saw a Pentiment wasn't pleased about being left out of the 2022 and 2023 nominations probably because of its late November release date. I know Keighley needs to make the awards commercially viable, but it hurts November and December releases so much.

Alan Wake 2 winning GOTY and sweeping story, direction etc would be such a nice surprise. Baldurs Gate 3 gets my respect for just the best “game” as designed, it really allows you to play and interact with it as a player 10/10 but I personally prefer more linear and narrative heavy games so Alan wake 2 with its brilliant mix of live action and Kojima level nonsense writing made me really happy

The Game Awards talk, and the complete omission of Talos Principle II from any nominations, made me think the reason we have so many GotYs in October is so games don't get lost in that November shuffle. With the cut off being mid November for eligibilty, a game release then risks being shut out of 2 different game awards. People don't have time to play/finish it for this year's, and it's forgotten by next year's nominations.
