Hey Allies! This sounds like a downer but I promise it has a positive ending. Unfortunately, at the beginning of this year my father who suffered from Parkinsons and Dementia had passed away. My brother and I took it hard because we became a little dismissive of him in recent years as - due to the nature of his illness - he became less and less like himself. A few months later now, we have gotten past our guilt and overall mourning, and we have started remembering the good memories from back when he was healthy. To that point, there was a contest that a regional grocery store chain put on back in the late 90s when I was 10 years old, to play Starfox 64 with a chance to win a massive 50 inch rear projection RCA TV for whoever got the most points. I knew this was coming up so I practiced for weeks only to realize when my dad took my brother and I to the contest, that I was practicing the wrong mode! I was doing the campaign to figure out the highest score i could do in 3 minutes, only to realize it was a multiplayer mode where you fight AI enemies to see who could get the highest score. So i didn't do super well, but there were two stores of this particular chain in my city. And my Dad asked one of the people working there in his best 'salesmen voice' if we participated in the contest here- was there any reason we couldnt go and participate in the other store as well? So they said it was fine and my dad rushed us over to the other store before they closed through rush hour traffic, and there was only one spot left so my brother told me to take it because he knew i was better at Starfox - and I won! That 50 inch tv was MINE, and for years, i was allowed to kick my parents off any time when I wanted to play my games on it. And I have my Dad to thank for those years of memories playing on that TV. I just wanted to hear if any of the allies had similar stories about their parents or grandparents coming through for them in a gaming related moment like this. Huber, your stories about your mom supporting your love of Resident evil with the blackout curtains, and your many stories of gaming with your brother come to mind and were comforting things to think about during this time! My brother and I were recounting this story on our gaming podcast recently and I felt it would be a nice one to share with the EZA community as well. Hey Allies, based on the talks about "favors" in gaming journalism I wanted to share a story that I needed to get of my chest. When I was 21 I was working for a big gaming publication in Germany. I got to review Patapon on PSP and wanted to give it a 90/100. But my chief editor told me to tone it down to a 89, since another important game (that shall not be named) needed to get the highest score in that issue, else the associated publisher would be mad.
