I wanted to share the second single to be taken from Restless Lullabies here with you ahead of its release on Friday. This is 'New Skin (Acoustic)', played on a six-string ukulele (guitalele).
When I originally wrote this song I was at a hugely transitional phase of life and became acutely aware of the shedding my old skin.
I often struggle to recognise the person wearing this new skin, unsure of who I am and who I’m supposed to be. The tapestry I’d previously woven around myself felt comforting and reassuring, like when we head straight for the same clothes in our wardrobe, but there comes a time, tinged with some sadness, when your favourite shirt no longer fits.
Over the years the tapestry becomes threadbare and another year feels like a guessing game in searching for a new identity and seeking answers to questions that can sometimes feel mountainous and too heavy to ask.
I really hope you enjoy listening to New Skin's new skin! It's an honour to share it with you.

I absolutely 😍 this version of New Skin. Always been an acoustic fan and adore this instrument and your beautiful voice on here. I had to play this song 3 or 4 times before I floated through the house.

Hello! Just to say a huge thank you - I saw you in Selby on Friday and was an absolute treat for me on my way back home to Scotland. Luckily, I was there visiting family and managed to make time to come and watch the show. Loved hearing the new stuff as well older material properly for the first time, especially hearing more texture and noticeablly softer layers in your voice. I've been taking my time with this new single, listening on repeat, trying to find the words to respond to it. This song is very special to me. It became an anthem to me at first listen (New Skin album). It speaks to me in a literal way, with my chronic illness affecting mainly my skin, forcing me to, more times than not, having to say goodbye to my old skin and face my new reality of living with this illness and of losing who I used to be because of it. But now I understand that no matter how scary and painful it is, it's only to give life to a new skin - literally and metaphorically. It definitely took some time to learn that, but it was all thanks to this song. Everytime it gets bad I just listen to it or repeat the lyrics in my head to keep myself from going in a downward spiral and remember that it will be ok. I'll never be able to thank you enough for that, specially now that you've given us this beautiful new version of the song. It actually feels like this is the version that it was meant to have always been. It's beyond beautiful. Definitely going to be one of my forever favorites. Thank you, once again, for giving us such a precious gift. Lots of love!

Yeah, that skin is painful to shed. Going from Q1 in life to Q2 was painless, coz it was mostly a joy, whereas these phases are full of trepidation, fear and responsibility. But with them comes wisdom in support, and when you embrace where you are, it'll feel like old comfortable shoes and you'll be ready to march on, climb that mountain and enjoy the view. Looking forward to the 28th!! Thanks for all your sweeeeeeet tunes, which takes the crumpled shirt of life and irons it all out for us.
