He was very unsettling. All that climbing over the sofa on TV-am or throwing maggots over Vanessa Feltz felt like "if not this, I'd be pulling a switchblade." And that ghost thing, of course, is on YouTube (possibly incomplete). Spoilers for this year's Halloween content probably, because how can I not? - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSXZSK3NGBk

Starr always seemed to have an air of menace about him, regardless of the setting or show he was on. Like the guy in the pub, propping up the bar all day, necking beers and giving everyone who passed by him unwanted advice. You know he’s going to turn on a penny if you give the wrong response. He seemed old fashioned, even at the beginning of his career, spewing the same old ‘jokes’. There was a documentary about him, and there was a part with Freddie himself talking about learning how his ex-wife used to sleep with a knife under her pillow out of fear that one night he'd flip and try to murder her. Then he went on to say that his Son did the same thing too because he feared that should ever Freddie murder his Mother, then he'd likely come into his bedroom to kill him as well. Terrifying! More Krueger than Starr, you can almost hear the nursery rhyme. Your essay did inspire me to look at his Wiki, and this bit did stand out: ‘In March 2009, Starr appeared in Living with the Dead, a reality television show about people being haunted by ghosts. Freddie claimed his 1930s house was being haunted by an evil entity which he called George. During the show it appeared that he was possessed by this entity. It was later revealed that the entity's name was Roger. During the episode, Freddie says that since he was a boy he was always spiritual and firmly believed in ghosts’ A possessed Freddie! How could you tell? I kind of want to hunt this down.
