The story of the 20th century experiment in public housing is equal parts tragic and fascinating. Would be cool if at least one of those slabs with "PERKINS" on it could be reused in whatever comes next for the area but I imagine most people just see the whole thing as cursed and want no reminders of what would have come before.

We’ve been searching for five years in northern California and have maybe found two or three lol nothing as amazing and large as what you guys have that’s nuts.. But yeah it takes a lot of balls to go into these places! We have more people on the streets here in Cali then folks living in a home. It’s so so heartbreaking. It’s much more than just giving them a place to live tho. First we need to treat the mental health crisis and drug addiction crisis after that start placing folks into their own place to live. So much more of an emergency. But guys what’s Important is making sure Congress gets their “months” of vacation yearly that needs to come first duh

20 years ago this place was hell on earth. drugs and gangs. it was very scary. i’m not sad to see them go because frankly they’re ugly looking buildings but also because of the boost this will give the area. It’s long overdue.

Such a shame they’re tearing those down! They seem like they would have been nice places 20 years ago. You’re absolutely right, the city could make a few repairs and let the homeless live in them so there off the streets. Such a waste it’s sad.
