I once had a friend, since childhood actually, but as time passed I realized that he still was treating me like the kid I was when we met. Toxic. I was talked down to constantly. I know that he wasn't really aware of what he was doing, but that didn't make it any less toxic. I walked away. Recently I have begun to think he or his wife (or both) might be dead. I'm conflicted. Part of me wants to know, but part of me still has no interest in digging deep, because if he is still around, he will NOT have changed. It isn't in him. Bottom line? When you walk away from a toxic friendship, don't go back. Your own self-esteem is way more important than a tired old failed friendship.
