Down and Gone (Throwback Sessions)
🕑 Added 2016-10-27 16:24:21 +0000 UTC Welcome to the first installment of the Throwback Sessions! Last week (or was it this week!? I have no concept of time...) I asked you all whether you'd be down to hear me revisit some of my oldies, and the response was so surprisingly positive that I basically cried forever.I know many of you have been on this journey with me from the beginning, but it still somehow is unbelievable to me that so many people know and have relationships with my earliest songs, and it is one of the coolest things imagineable. In my mind those songs are dead and gone and forgotten--not to me, but to the world, so seeing that so many people were excited to hear them again was amazing.
"Down and Gone" was one of the most requested, so I thought I'd start there. Sitting down and playing this song felt surprisingly comforting. It was like finding an old friend. It was so familiar and yet from such a distant time in my life.
I apologize in advance for my rambling at the end. I'm going to try to get better at expressing myself in talking form. I always feel this pressure at the end of my videos like NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR YOU TALK SHUT UP so I try to rush through it and end up barely skimming over things, but I want to push myself to just TRY going a little deeper and taking a little more time. I know there really is a big chunk of my viewers that are probably just going to be annoyed by the talking, but lucky for them, they can just stop watching if that's the case! But I really hope I can get better at it because I'd love to share a little bit more about myself, my life, and my songs with you all.
Have you guys experienced this kind of loss of a friendship or relationship? There have been a couple friendships in my life that fell apart for a time and it was so heartbreaking to me. It felt unjust that I couldn't have them in my lives anymore. Luckily in time we were able to stand across from each other again and make amends and it's something I'm so grateful for.

Oh ps! Don't know if you heard the news on twitter yesterday, but I wrote a song, and I'm so darn excited about it. Can't wait to start sharing new things with you again, too!

Thanks for your response to my comment! The most important reason why I joined the Street Team and ordered Stairwells was your immediate response. That is, one or two days after discovering you on Valentineβs Day I wrote an email to you and immediately received an answer from you. So I thought wow, she really cares! This is why.

Down and Gone is definitely one of my (many) favorite Kina classics! π I'd like to nominate Please Remember for next time, since that one hasn't had much time in the sun yet and it's one of my all time faves! Even though I get the overall picture of what it's about, you can explain what you felt like you were missing out on while you were down under. Btw, I'm still interested in your explanation of the first line in Impermanent, if you have the time. P.S. - of course we love your chatting at the end of the vid!

My (former) best friend is the one who introduced me to your youtube channel about 8 years ago, actually. She was literally my only friend through high school years (it's hard making friends as a homeschooler in the country, not many people to talk to ^^; ). It was mostly a penpal thing, but we got to hang out a couple times. She really took care of me when I was down, and I tried to do the same for her. We were close until a couple years ago; to this day, I can't tell what happened. She cut off all lanes of communication one day, and never said another word to me. She's alive and well, just doesn't seem to want anything to do with me anymore. Still wonder how's she's doing most days. In other words, you just made me cry a bit in public, but I forgive you. That was a great retake, I'm actually really looking forward to the next one! Please don't be afraid to talk in your videos, we love to hear from you!

i love thinking about it like that! and in a weird way, it kind of is like a cover, huh? i have changed and evolved so much in the last 10 years, personally, vocally, experientially, etc, that it really is like taking on someone else's song about their current life and re-applying it to my own!

Love this version. It's honestly like hearing you cover someone else's song because it sounds new and fresh with your current voice. And - I don't mean that in a bad way! - I just mean that you always sing from your heart, regardless of whether or not the song is yours or someone else's. After marinading in the lyrics once again, it made me think of the email Jesse sent you that you recently posted. Now I have a new appreciation and understanding of what this song means, thank you! :)
I love this video so much and I am smiling so huge right now! so wonderful to hear a beautiful song from your past that actually predated my discovering you by three years. it's been awhile, if ever, since one of my days has gotten off to this great a start! as for you talking at the end, I can't figure out for the life of me why anybody would ever want to stop you from talking. I can't even imagine how such people could even exist! I get so sad when your vids have to end because I always wish you could go on talking indefinitely! it's like when your visiting with somebody you care so much about and then you have to leave. hearing your sweet soothing voice and seeing your wholesome, natural beauty are absolutely therapeutic for me and do wonders to help me forget about my troubles for awhile. so please don't ever feel the need to apologize to me for talking because it would be tantamount to apologizing for making me so happy! as for lost friendships or relationships? well, let me put it to you this way: I am probably the king of lost friendships/relationships, many of them I still don't know what I did wrong. and, sadly, the vast majority of them have never been repaired. but I think that's as far as I'll discuss this because I don't want to put a damper on your lovely vid! now I'm the one who's rambling, lol.
