The big problem with drawing comics is that while you're drawing it, the joke runs through your head about a thousand times and you end up with a MEGA dumb comic. So the only hope is to get a reaction from the patrons

I can relate too. Even tried method you mentioned in a comic when I was a teenager. Took a bottle of sleeping pills and ate all of them. Funny thing that I got opposite effects and couldn’t sleep for two days. 😆
