Three Geiger Counters Challenged | Weak and STRONG samples

Thanks Tobias. The pancake probe in the RadiaScan isn't the largest on the market but it sure makes a difference as shown with the tritium vials. I need to test it further but the Gamma-Scout should be better at detecting low-energy alphas, since it may have a small but also very thin mica window - letting low-energy alphas pass through. Pancake-probes are difficult to make with very thin mica windows - they will simply be to fragile to handle :) But yes, a gamma scintillator and pancake probe Geiger counter could be a good match for detecting a wide range of radiation types and energies. I really hope to get a gamma scintillator at some point! (Gammaspectacular seems 'affordable').

Nice video and shows the strengths of a pancake detector (RadiaScan-701A) compared to normal GM tubes mostly sensitive to gammas and a bit betas (Soeks 01M Plus) or with thin windows (GammaScout) some alphas too. Something worth considering as a completion to my gamma scintillator for high sensitive background logging.
