Can I measure the grade of a magnet?
🕑 Added 2020-06-28 17:17:05 +0000 UTCThis is a video I have hesitated to make. But it is a video that is fitting for my channel and answers a question I occasionnally get from viewers (and ask myself): Can the grade of a magnet be measured?
I believe it is very difficult at home due to many factors and relatively small differences between the grades. Not to mention the grades are ranges - not exact values.
I will however attempt to determine the grade of a cheap N52 magnet from eBay using only a gaussmeter and some theoretical calculations. Will it work? Find out in the video.

No, only a Swede would do that. I am a fan of meat - and even the best fish is not meat in my optics. Surströmming is not even food for me... x)

Thanks. I believe the method can still be refined, but for only an indication for a hobbyist, it is useful as is. I haven't looked into prices on fluxmeters in general but Lake Shore Cryotronics have one for $3676 and Hirst have some for £2650-£3800 and a calibrator for the fluxmeter for only £520... Ah well, if I ever get thousands of supporters like you (welcome aboard!) it is not impossible at all.

Yeah, this method seems good enough for a hobbyist. How much would one of those fancy "full flux" meters cost? I'm expecting lots of decimal places... 😁
