❤️ Small Ways to Be Kind to Yourself ❤️
🕑 Added 2023-02-03 22:30:14 +0000 UTCI’m not great at life, sometimes. But I am finding ways to treat myself with kindness.
I made this list for my fridge last year, when I was feeling incredibly low and unsafe. I looked at it very consciously today and I thought it could be a nice thing to share.
It’s not a cure-all (because absolutely nothing on its own is) but it could be a small act of kindness to implant into your everyday.
Last year was the hardest yet for me. I was suicidal, I never felt safe, my mom had to move in with me. I would be recording in the morning, editing, answering DM’s and then sobbing hysterically in the afternoon, being cradle by my mom in bed, thinking “I just can’t do this anymore”.
Life is hard for everyone. We cannot be intelligent, empathetic people unless we accept the fact that we all struggle.
From someone who is continuously learning, making mistakes, and really just feels like they don’t know what they’re doing - I promise you, it can and will get better. Not overnight, not by taking a pill or going to one therapy session, but by showing up for yourself in all the little ways that make all the difference.
Maybe a list could be one of them.
Respect and wishing you well,
This sloppy bitch :)
Remedies for Mania/Low Moods:
- Remember that you are loved, seen and held.
- Do gentle exercises (walk Mish, hula hoop, ride your bike)
- Take a long, restful bath (with candles, a comfort watch and a cup of tea)
- Call someone you love (you have a lot of people)
- Take time to rest (go to bed, do a gentle meditation, comfort watch something relaxing)
- Be kind to yourself (it is the key to healing, growth and positive change)
- Remember that you are needed, that your happiness is important not only to you, but to others too
- Pamper yourself (wash your hair, moisturise, pluck your eyebrows, put on a face mask)
- Do a gentle and easy activity (make cornflake buns, go for a walk, dance to music in your bedroom, journal)
- Read something simple and comforting (you have a lot of easy reads on your bookshelf)
- Buy flowers and clean the house
- Appreciate your wonderful life, house and circumstances (you live freely, safely and with support and love)
- Listen to an audiobook
- Do a kind thing for someone else (helping others always makes you feel useful, needed and purposeful)
- Watch routine videos, cottagecore playlists, etc
- Remember that you’re okay, your family is okay, and that whatever is going on right now will all be okay too.

If it works and nobody gets hurt, then it's great. Everybody's got to have something.

This is one of the reasons I’m a patron. Just seeing these random, wholesome, uplifting things in my email from time to time? It’s extremely encouraging. As of right now, I turned 22 like 2 days ago and am in my second semester at a new college. Things have been rough, but these little notes of sweetness and just “I may not know you but I love you” energy is what gets me through. Thank you for sharing tea. These sorts of messages make me feel like “yeah, it’s ok not to have my life figured out right this moment.” Or “yeah, I don’t need to stress that I don’t have a girlfriend.” Because all that will come in time. But I have to come first for myself.

I'm glad you're doing better Tea, I cracked up at sloppy bitch. Not at all in favour of parasocial relationships and all that, and we don't really know you personally, but you can trust that we do care that you're okay, and it's more than just as an "entertainment source" type of deal. You, the person, the tea woman, we want you to be well, and we're gladdened when you tell us you are. Sincerely.
