❤️ Make Your ‘Never Thought I’d’ List ❤️
🕑 Added 2023-10-12 16:23:15 +0000 UTCSometimes we need to remind ourselves of how far we've come. I think we get so preoccupied with achieving more, doing more, being more, that we hardly take the time to see all the work, effort and luck we've had a long the way.
So, here's my little tonic. A 'Never Thought I'd' List is a list of things you never thought you’d ever accomplish/would happen to you. I wrote mine down last night and got surprisingly emotional about it (in the best way).
If you struggle to acknowledge your own progression, the strides you've taken, the effort you've expanded, you might wanna give this little list a go. Also, don't be frighten to fill it with the good, the bad and the trivial. Work happens slowly, in the small day-to-day steps we take.
✨My 'Never Thought I'd' List:✨
Learned to drive.
Talked about my childhood with my family.
Went to regular and helpful therapy.
Stayed on medication for 2+ years.
Started a business.
Moved to another country (granted it was only for six months, but still).
Kept a consistent workout routine.
Stopped flipping between binge eating and starving myself.
Stopped people pleasing (especially with people I don’t know/don’t even enjoy being around).
Created a job for my mom.
Financially aided my sister out of a terrible situation.
Bought all my siblings and mom their own cars.
Encouraged my sister to go to therapy.
Was honest about struggling with physical intimacy (and the possibility that I might always find it a challenge).
Allowed people to help me when I really needed it.
Was diagnosed with Level 1 Autism in my late 20’s and actually felt the benefit of understanding my brain better.
Used the suicide hotline and felt the kindness of strangers who wanted me to keep going.
Completed behavioural dog training.
Ended a relationship that needed ending.
Looked at myself in the mirror, post work-out, red and sweating and completely imperfect and thought 'that's a pretty girl'.
I hope you can find some joy in making your own list.

Never thought I'd: Recover from sex addiction. Stay out of prison. Survive two suicide attempts. Laugh about spending time in a mental hospital. Be free of resentment and fear. Let go of so much shame. Be of service to the world. Have so many options and so much security in my career. Make amends. Become close with my God. Tell people about dark places my addiction went without being judged. Be uplifted by the most ordinary of miracles when I was sure I'd fall. Truly believe life is good, ESPECIALLY the hard stuff because it's all fertile ground for growth and peace.
