Sometimes I get caught in a cycle of the same movies, books, activities, and whatever else. If you also suffer from this, I hope this small collection of recommendations can be of some help.
P.S. These are obviously just things I like and if you don’t like them too, then that’s absolutely a-okay ❤️
✨Movies/Series:✨
X (2022):
A group of friends are trying to make a breakout porno and some old folks get a little murderous about it. That’s the plot and it’s brilliant. Set in the sizzling 70’s of rural Texas, the film explores the alluring and also uncomfortable feelings people have around sex, morality and religion. Is sex evil? Is making pornography deviant? Or is it the repression of sex that which turns people hateful and a little murderous? It’s fun, it’s imaginative and if you wanna see some nice titties and great acting - you’re about to be served. Fair warning - old people graphically fuck in this film. And I mean on the brink of death old. You have been told!
Pearl (2022):
The mother of all prequels. Pearl is the origin story of the main antagonist of X. Follow Pearl - a young farmer’s daughter trapped with her infirm father and devout mother as she desperately tries to escape her circumstances, expectations and undeniable blood-lust. A truly uncomfortable and entertaining watch. If you love horror movies that show the human parts of monsters - this is a great watch. Whilst the movie never excuses Pearl’s actions, it does show how the treatment she receives influences her behaviour. Also, Mia Goth is, in fact, the shit! An undeniable talent!
Interview with the Vampire (2022):
The gayest vampires that ever sucked! Based on Anne Rice’s impeccable book series, Interview follows Louis as he recounts his life as a vampire chronicling his death, making and all the centuries that follow. It’s gothic, it’s gay, it’s full of deliciously grey monsters. Please watch. And if you’re straight - you might not be by the end of this :)

Nesting:
So, this weekend I walked the puppies, put some laundry on, changed my sheets, had a shower and got myself all clean and wholesome for a day of ‘nesting’. Nesting is essentially hauling up in your bed with some snacks, a tv and whatever else you need to just stay put in your little nest. It’s kind of like ‘rotting’ but instead of feeling like you’re decaying, you instead feel taken care of, washed and nurtured - all by yourself.
I haven’t done this in a long while and I absolutely needed it this weekend. I actually rested, napped, listened to some audiobooks, played Hogwarts Legacy, ate chocolate and oranges, lit candles and just felt totally safe and happy. It was beautiful. If you need some r&r, I highly recommend. Also, it’s relatively cheap, safe and anxiety-free. What’s not to love?
Visit an Animal Sanctuary:
There’s a donkey sanctuary not too far from my house and it’s one of my favourite places to go. It’s quiet, it’s slow-paced and it has a collection of rescued donkeys who are now being fed, sheltered and nurtured. Going to these places supports them financially and also allows you to spend some one-on-one time with animals. Everybody wins. Also, donkeys are so freaking gorgeous and underrated and I really encourage you to go see some if you can.
Stay on Your Meds/Come Off Them Slowly:
Speaking from experience, medication is not to be sniffed at. Do not just come off them instantly without talking to your doctor - it will have consequences. That doesn’t mean stay on medication that doesn’t suit you, it means stay in contact with your doctor and raise any concerns you have. It can feel debilitating having to be on medication, but it is so much better than being denied access to it in the first place. Medicine is not something to feel ashamed about. It’s to help with ailments of the mind and body. Be smart and talk to medical professionals.

Nesting is honestly super nice. A great main event to a day of radical self care.

Excellent advice on the meds. 36 years in the field and from personal experience with Paxil coming off quickly can cause problems. I had to halve the dose for a week, the half it again for a second week, and finally yet again for the third and final week. When we tried it quickly I had serious vertigo.
