No, I've only seen that episode once and it was like ten months ago. So, I don't even remember the character you're talking about, let alone that actor that played him. lol

Did you recognize the Pope? It's the same actor who played the head of the Italian family the Nobles lived with in Turn Left. I totally agree with you, this definitely feels like a turning point in the season. Nardole really steps it up, the Doctor is blind, it's revealed that Missy is in the vault, and there is a something big coming. It really got me excited for what is to come when I first watched it.

They never went to the vatican IRL. They were always in the simulation. Everything after the open scene with the doctor reading the words Extremis was the memory print of the simulation.
