Yeah, Mack's role on the team/show is to be the moral compass. He calls out the team members frequently (usually when they are wrong), but I've never seen anyone perceive that dynamic in such a negative way. Mack was very annoying in Season 2, but I thought he proved himself to be an essential and committed member of the team in Season 3.

You really seem to find any reason to dislike Mack. He is not yelling at Fitz or trying to make him do anything. S.H.I.E.L.D like all government should have some kind of moral code or they become just like the people they fight. The perfect example is Radcliffe vs Fitz. They both worked on the LMD and framework but Fitz's moral line keeps him from going to far. Mack has always wanted to keep shield on the moral line. We need a character like that even if he is not always correct. When Coulson was doing questionable moral things he said something even if Coulson didn't listen. When Daisy started crossing lines he said something even if she didn't listen. When Fitz starts to cross moral lines he says something. He is trying to make him understand that he is starting to cross moral lines with his tools. Mack's the teams moral compass. That is his role. He protects everyone even from themselves. You have to have someone who will call you out when you do something questionable so you know where that line is.
