Ah yes, the famous non-cliffhanger, featuring the perils of parquet flooring... Needless to say, that's not where Part Three was originally intended to end. The scripted cliffhanger came at an earlier point, where the Daleks seem just about to catch up with the Doctor and Bellal. But in production the episode was found to be underrunning so severely that a couple of minutes of material had to be pulled forward from Part Four (which was running long, anyway), in order to get it to the right length. For some reason, Seasons 10 and 11 had several cases of mistimed episodes causing messed-up cliffhangers. From last season, Episode 4 of "Frontier in Space" was another one that ran short and had to be extended with material from the following episode, resulting in it petering out with a slow pan revealing (from behind!) an Ogron silently watching a monitor screen -- not the most thrilling ending... :-)
