Every trans kid should have a Mom like you! Re. "dropping hints": dropping hints is one of the several tips I tell people who ask my advice on how to come out. For instance, bring up current events/films/books/TV shows etc that touch on transgender issues and casually say something like "Hey, did you see that new movie 'A B C'?" or "Did you see Katie Couric's interview of Caitlyn Jenner?" or "I saw this Bosnian-Australian model, Andreja Pejić. I can't believe how amazing she looks!" etc. Their reaction could provide big clues.
