This video is in a watch-along format. This means you'll need your own copy of the episode to watch alongside my reaction. This is in an effort to avoid copyright infringement.
If you're based in the UK (or using a UK streaming site), here are instructions for how to get your copy to sync with mine.
The show footage will play for the first 30 seconds with both video and audio. After that, the show footage will be silenced, and the video will be blurred for the remainder of the episode. Yes, please. It did seem like something I had already seen, but had just forgotten.

Let us know if you want to know why you recognise Villengard (sp?). It's not a spoiler, but it's from an episode you watched a VERY long time ago...

Yeah your thoughts about this episode matched mine, not a bad episode but also not great. There absolutely was too much going on I agree. Nicola Coughlan, who played Joy, was widely advertised as being the one episode companion. Similar to Astrid Peth in Voyage Of The Damned, Grant Gordon in The Return of Dr Mysterio etc etc. Nicola's name was after Ncuti's on the opening titles and she was on every British chat show going before the episode aired. Also, as you said, she is a very well known actress. Yes for Derry Girls and also for Bridgerton. So to watch the episode and to see The Doctor's time split between so many people was a surprise, Joy was gone for large chunks of the episode. Trev and Anita were just as important as Joy really. Didn't get that. And I was SO happy to hear you say that you didn't get the whole thing with Anita. On Twitter I said exactly the same as you, that their connection was really rushed and I didn't feel any emotions when he left her because we didn't really know her. But people got SO mad at me for saying that. For some reason Anita has become the Doctor Who fandom's new favourite person, people LOVE her and talk about her under every official Doctor Who social media post. I really don't get it. I felt they had a romantic vibe which I did love but I also felt like Anita was a bit shady, like there was something off about her. I have my theories about what that is. But yeah I don't understand why people love her at all. I also didn't get The Doctor saying that he hadn't stayed in one place for a long time. He has loads of times. He stayed with Amy and Rory as you said and if what was said in the 60th specials is true and 14 will eventually turn into 15 after he's stayed with Donna's family and healed from his trauma, then this Doctor would remember that. And there are many more examples over the years of him staying in one place. So yeah that irritated me a bit. And the whole every hotel room has a mysterious locked door thing didn't work because, as you said, they're doors to ajoining rooms. There's no mystery to those doors at all. Oh and also how did The Doctor make the mop move on it's own? It's a wooden mop and I thought the sonic doesn't work on wood? ๐ But on the positive side, Ncuti absolutely SHONE for me in this episode. This is the first time I was like "yep, this is The Doctor." I think it might be because of Moffat writing this episode, because I got glimpses of it in Boom from last season as well. Russell always writes The Doctor as too human and too cool imo. But Moffat lets The Doctor be the quirky weirdo he's supposed to be. Like when he insulted Trev's intelligence and got really mean with Joy to save her and was more annoyed about the dinosaur interrupting his big speech than about the dinosaur eating the briefcase that was all just SO Doctor lol. He gave me 12 vibes a bit at times. He was exceptional and really made me excited to see what more he has to give us in season 2/series 15. And one more thing before I shut up lol, when The Doctor was talking to the Trev hologram he said "rotational mavity" instead of gravity. You missed that but yeah I do love that they're sticking with the mavity thing. I know you weren't a big fan of it but I love it. It's so silly and ridiculous, totally Doctor Who. ๐ Bring on the next season, hopefully it won't be a long wait. ๐ค๐ค
