🕑 Added 2019-12-30 18:07:20 +0000 UTCOK SO.... I have not been rendering out Amys Big Wish yet because I have not settled on the type of hair we are going to be using. Originally, I wanted to use "real" hair (which looks beautiful)! However, in working with real hair, I quickly realized, it would add a LOT of extra time to the production. And while it looked beautiful, it seemed silly to add weeks of extra work to each animation for "real" hair (but gosh it looked so pretty... frowny sad face). At least I know in the future what it takes if I get to a point where this wouldn't slow things down so much,
BUT I have to start rendering the animation asap if I want to release it this month. So we need to figure this out!
WHICH MEANS, we are left with 2 choices: Polygon Hair or Hair Cards! (I apologize that the style is slightly different below).
EDIT: I added an end time of 8 AM CST tomorrow for this poll because I NEED to start rendering!
Polygon Hair:
- Faster renders (4 minutes 44 seconds for the below image)
- Less realism (though I can texture it a little to look more hair ish)
- More stylized look
Hair Cards:
- Slower renders (6 minutes 30 seconds for the below image )
- More realism

I cannot vote anymore but I actually like the polygon hairs better. Especially with Amy. With Candice I like both, just the polygon a bit more. Although it looks i'm in the minority here...

I think the Polygon hair looks better as well, I don't care that it is shorter time wise, that is just a bonus.

I like the polygon hair, it fits with the rest of the art style better. Plus faster rendering means the projects gets done sooner :P

As an artist, you have to go with your heart; if you let your head guide you it will always feel as if you missed something; the hair cards will be worth it when you look back and know it is how you envisaged it

Even with the 37% increase in rendering time, the cards are worth it. The work matters more and has to stand the test of time. You will always second guess cutting corners downstream, as opposed to making the best quality choice you can make now. You'll never second guess the better choice when looking back on the work in a few years, and you certainly won't want to revisit it to clean it up. That said, some people really get off on polys...if that's the case, you have my condolences and should bow to your hormones. :^]

Not necessarily. Disney and pixar have both moved to using realistic hair in there movies and it looks really good.

Quality over quantity. You have loyal fans who would wait an extra few days for any of your art. Ya know? As a cook I learned a lot of rules. Some important ones were don't serve un finished meal (under cooked or missing items off the plate) and never send items your not 100% proud to send out. Food for thought. Love the work and can't wait to see what happens

The "real hair" throws the animation off it looks out of place as the style looks more cartoon like and using the "real hair" looks makes it look like when your younger and you draw nothing but faces then when you start adding a body the head looks perfect but the body looks crude.

Hair cards all the way! Hopefully you'll get us to uncanny valley in the future lol. When I can't figure out if the futa is real or not will be a good time to be alive!

This is a pretty tough choice as I do like both of them, though ultimately I went with the hair cards, that style just looks way too nice! Speaking of looking nice, Candice is rocking that pink negligee 😉😻, and I definitely like Amy's purple attire 💜

The hair cards are clearly the nicer option... But not worth the ~50% jump in rendering time.
