The guy at the end is Steven. He was the guy Mlem recruited in the City of Lights because he was trying to steal an apple. The Auntaunt dont like him.

iirc he was suspicious because he was housless and did stuff the Auntaunt(i dont remember how its spelt) dont like. Rain took interest simply because he calls himself Steve and drew connections to Irwin, jobs etc.

Also Dysteevian, aka "Steeve" is that kinda suspicious random guy that Mlem hired to help in the trading outpost/shop that Ascension set up in the city of light (before the Bank sent a gold to bully them into leaving the city again and tried to steal all their stuff). And the suspicion is that he's from another world, like Rain is I guess. I don't remember why, or what exactly he did that was suspicious when he was introduced though.

Yep, lots of stories feel empty. Like things outside the focus of the author don't exist. With this story, if I were randomly dropped in a city somewhere inside the world, I could at least make predictions and expect what my life will be like, even in places that were never mentioned. :)

Thanks for continuing the saga. I love these build chapters. They provide everyday context to how Ascension lives. It will be interesting to see if The Watch is impacted by working with Rain; who am I kidding, of course, they will be different.
