A short story about a mousedeer and a tiger
🕑 Added 2019-07-07 17:42:17 +0000 UTCStill figuring some pieces about chapter 9 *attempts to shove a square block onto a round hole* but this looks like a good time to share one of those short fables about Sang Kancil ~

"Alamak !" cried the mousedeer. (The word "Alamak" is a local expression used to express shock, dismay, concern, worry, or disapproval, in a manner similar to "Oh shit")
Sang Kancil was startled awake by the sharp fangs and pungent smell of unbrushed breath as the tigers jaws were wide open about to eat the mousedeer. "Hold it hold it hold it hold it, stop !" Sang Kancil flailed his tiny hooves batting away at the tiger's face. The tiger slowly reclined, "And why should I not eat you ?". He knows that if the mousedeer tries to run away he could easily catch up, and there was no place to hide as they were in an open field.
"Because..." the mousedeer quickly got onto his four legs. "I happen to be one of the Raja's guardsmen" he finished. (Raja is the traditional term for King)
"I've never seen you before." said the tiger.
"One of the lesser guardsmen, but one of them nevertheless !" Sang Kancil boldly lifted his head to reinforce his fib. "And the Raja would not take too kindly to those who eats his guardsmen"
"I was at his last parade, he has plenty," the tiger squinted at the mousedeer. "And surely he would not notice if a... lesser guardsmen were missing" he began to slowly widen his jaws again.
"Wait wait wait wait wait, ok, I'll tell !" Sang Kancil waved his two front legs in the air. "You haven't heard of me because I am a secret guardsmen. Nobody is supposed to know who I am, and nobody is especially to know what I am guarding."
He motioned to a little patch of faded grass just nearby with a little flat pastry looking thing lying on top. "I am the Raja's personal dessert courier ! And it is my duty and my life to deliver the Raja's favourite 'apom' dessert every day for his tea. The light and crisp pancake just melts between your teeth, while the most succulent slices of sweet fried bananas fill your mouth, and all of its coated with the crunchiest nuts and corn."
The tiger's mouth began to water. "But the chef who makes these prefer to live nearby where she could pick the ripest bananas and the softest of corns, which unfortunately happens to be a distance away from where the Raja lives" the mousedeer continued. "And so I was tasked to safeguard and deliver this edible gold from there to the palace."
"You were however," the tiger interjected, "sleeping on the job. I ought to report you to the king."
"Alas, I have," the mousedeer faced towards the sky with a hoof upon his brow. "Please do not report me to the king."
"I can offer to eat you to spare you from such humiliation."
"You may but... !" Sang Kancil held a leg up. "I am nothing but skin and bones. Days upon days of delivery has robbed me of any tender meat that you might enjoy. However ! There is a certain pastry that might satiate you more ?"
The mousedeer beckons towards to aforementioned dessert. "I will allow you to have one bite in exchange for my life. You may choose to take a small bite or you may choose to take a big bite, but just one !" The mousedeer is not fooling anyone, the tiger thought, of course he's going to take a big bite.
"But I cannot be seen betraying my duty like this," the mousedeer says. "If you allow me to hide behind that tree while you take a bite and walk away, I can safely say that I was just off to the little mousedeer's room for a while when it happened."
The tiger wondered who even builds a little mousedeer's room here in the middle of nowhere but replies, "Fine," and Sang Kancil skips out of sight behind the tree. The tiger then promptly takes a huge mouthful of what turns out to be quite a warm fresh loaf of cowpat.
A strange muffled roar can be heard for a mile. But if you lay low and listen to the bushes, you can hear the tiny squeak of a mousedeer laugh.

Omg I thought Australia had some dangerous looking animals, it's like a fusion of a sabertooth tiger and a deer! I actually want to these in my game and make them really dangerous.
maybe they all really like potato wedges x3 that being said you should see some pics of chinese water deers ~

I found out mousedeer are a real thing, just watched a video of them with some guy giving them potato wedges. I legit thought they were something of folklore like bigfoot. I guess the idea of it having tiny hooves made it unbelievable for me. Also why do they have such massive canine teeth? I thought it was just a potato skin hanging out of it's mouth but notice all of them had the same potato skin hanging out of their mouth.
The tiger's going to have a lot of explaining to do to the higher ups over at Don't Eat Cowpat Co.

I thought he was going to send him into a tiger trap. It was have been a PR disaster for the tiger.
