I respect Adam for explaining his feelings but I think this episode didn't do justice to a demanding, morally serious subject. I think a better approach would come in 2 parts. First, summarise what's emerged as best practice for employers in England when they learn about an allegation of misconduct outside the workplace. Then ask what is different for football clubs compared to the average employer. For example, Adam gave his view about clubs embodying special heritage and values; this is broadly true but clubs are also competing for talent in a sport where, if they earn a reputation for treating players harshly, agents will advise their clients not to renew or sign a contract. Footballers are probably somewhat more likely to face malicious allegations but also have resources to buy off victims or manufacture alibis or false witnesses. In short, Man United did the right thing suspending Mason Greenwood but the available evidence often isn't as compelling; suspending over an allegation, a denial and the start of a police investigation is a low bar with potential for massive costs and real injustice. Many high-profile companies wouldn't suspend senior employees on that basis and I'm really not sure football clubs should. Disclosure: I too am a Gooner but well capable of calling out the club's failings. The Rwanda sponsorship is a disgrace and Mesut Γ–zil was treated badly for speaking about the oppression of a minority in China.
