We must be in the same area, I'm in East Dallas. Still only $4500...

Cody Young

Fuck..... it's an hr from me.

BaloniusMaximus

That's still 500 too many!

Fu Man Schmoo

Jason - we never met but, I LIKE you.... :-)

Jason Harner

Anybody see this apropos Bring A Trailer listing? https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1991-toyota-mr2-105/ Might have to press the easy button and meet Matt out at the salt flats...

Jason Harner

I think the obvious answer is two 250cc CBR250RR motors put together into a 19000 RPM V8.

Mike Lackey

Your last video showed a turbo in the CAD model, so I assumed you were going that route to start with. Since you are going for Burkdoll's record, you are clearly going for Gas. You can remove the seal on your gas tank and (without changing anything else) run in the Fuel class which is currently set at "only" 180mph. You may even want to start there...

Mike Lackey

4 months? Hahahaha

Millyard does some interesting stuff - but, I wonder about the viability of a cut and shut 2 cylinder made from the R1000SS engine - where's the gerarbox drive gear going to fit for eg. Plus, I thinnk I am fairly safe in saying that it might take a *little* while longer to do that than the planned DIY cylinder deactivation I've not got my (oily) hands on one of those motors yet - so can't be sure the idea of 'deleting' the cam finger followers from cylinders 2 and 3 is quite enough.... it seems it should work... and if it does - it has much going for it.

Fu Man Schmoo

so... it's NOT just me :-) I feel better. (The want, is strong - and I don't need a 499cc short stroke 4 cylinder for a project... yet....)

Boost is allowed but it puts you in a different class. I might do it later.

Matt Brown

No, but I'll look him up.

I looked into de-stroking a 600cc to 500, but it was really $$$$ to make a one-off motorcycle crank. Partly because of the fact that they all transmit power to the transmission through a giant gear.

Kyle Jackson

Matt, there is a guy on YouTube named Allen Millyard. He does motorcycle engine conversions. He takes 2 4-cylinder engines and turns them into a 6-cylinder engine. Cuts, welds, mills, etc. I'm thinking you could go all out here and cut the center 2 pistons out of your engine. And reweld 1 and 4 together in the same style. Less weight, less size restrictions, less spun mass. Could really take it up a notch. Also is boost allowed?

Kyle Jackson

He really just has 1 hobby, cars. Now too many projects, that might be a problem.

Loren

Very interesting engine design. As a small engine builder that makes small engines go stupid fast I’m interested to see your engine build video.

Jeff Longley

Have you seen what Allen Millyard in the UK does with bike engines? May give you some ideas (#projectcreepbegins)

Fu Man Schmoo

How much time did you already put into thinking about a custom (short throw) crank (and long rods)? THAT would make quite some motor..... I guess it'd only cost about 20x, go about 1.02x faster and take 10x times as long to build..... But, admit it - the want is strong.... OR is it just me?

Matt Brown

I have too few hobbies, just not enough time :)

F.N. Photography

Not a bad thing, I struggle with it 🤣

F.N. Photography

Do you ever feel like you are interested in too many hobbies?
