Thanks for sharing! Ive been trying to learn how to color and I’m confused when some tutorials say use multiply, then shade there. But I also see others imply just color picking then color on top with a normal layer I understand that people have different approaches so it’s helpful to get another opinion

Maybe that'll be the next tutorial thing I do. I use multiply for shadows quite a bit, especially for areas with complicated patterns, but recently I've been doing the main shadows on a normal layer. In general I've recently been following this process: 1 - lineart 2 - separating the shadows from light: As I said, I've been doing this on a normal layers but can use multiply 3 - accent darks: basically emphasizing the darkest areas in the drawing (where light can't reach). I use a lot of heavy blacks in my lineart so in some cases the lineart itself does this 4 - halftones/highlights: I don't do too much with halftones as I go for a more graphic style, but I'll add a bit to soften up some areas like thighs and other fleshy parts of the body. Highlights I normally do on a hard light layer and likewise use sparingly. 5 - clean up: I sorta do this as I go but basically at the end just looking at the image as a whole and cleaning up any lines or areas that aren't looking right Writing this all out now I realize it's a lot and I probably should do a more proper write up on it lol. I'll try to get around to it!

Thanks for sharing! I was wondering if you’ll share on your coloring/painting approach as well in the future as these are very informative. If I may ask, I’m curious what your layer settings are (eg shadows are on multiply, everything is normal, etc)
