My assumption from what we've seen is the thinner ones are younger and they get curvier as they gain either experience or rank. Given the danger of their profession, it's likely a variation of the phrase "Beware an old man in any profession where one tends to die young".

This lesson makes me think that the Lutinette "mutants" we saw in the pumpkin comic didn't get that way from candy exposure, I think they got that way by kissing some of the girls on the factory floor.
