I actually really enjoyed this episode. It was interesting to see how everyone argued and tried to understand each other's perspective.

Literally imagine this argument at any other office ever slime and Nick would be escorted out of the building by security cause they don't work there before the argument could even happen š

Them explaining to Aiden is how i imagine theyāre going to have to teach ai about social interaction in the future

i definitely felt that there was a change in what nick brought to the records around episode 100 (when the nick is a misogynist joke was at its peak). nick started taking bigger swings and would hit these special few jokes every ep that i thought were truly spectacular (awesome sour ideas)! i definitely thought what he brought to the convo before that was cool/interesting but there was a barrier to me understanding what nick wanted out of the yard both comedically and more structurally. i think the crazy thing about the lights debate is that the division of labor in the office had nick take care of lighting, yes for the yard, but also for the broader office environment. but aiden doesnt really interact with nick as someone with some authority on the subject (doesnt try to find a compromise through him even though its ostensibly nickās job), doesnt treat nick as someone with knowledge about this problem (more of a compromise between authority and the next point), and doesnt willingly consider nick as someone that cares deeply about the lighting in the office (instead aiden repeatedly decides to cut through the effort of setting up the ambient lights with a fluorescent axe). even when this idea of nick as āthe say on lightingā takes a more solid shape in the conversational flow it slowly gets danced around in a somewhat annoying/dismissive manner (at least for me). obviously the whole discussion got to points that crossed the yardās usual self-regulation and presentation, so I apologize if my comment reads as a little too unnecessary to pile on, i was just confused why nick was getting so much backlash for this particular hyped up point of contention, it reads as bizarrely unempathetic behavior given what transpired in the ep.
Jesse Cain
shittt lights are bright. i lost the light of my life last january. what pants brand is Aiden wearing? they are super sick !

Why are the comments so unhinged? Anyway whoever decided to add the audience noises during the Lights segment is a genius banger ep
kenny le
the bots agreeing with adin is actually more funny than the ep

Not that serious
ThebesNutsHaGotem
Exactly, it is a work environment and it does not matter how many people like or dislike the lights. If someone needs the lights on to do their job than the lights get turned on and there's no emotional responsibility to make sure everyone is happy about it or that they get turned back off for the vibe or whatever
ThebesNutsHaGotem
Yeah, bad faith arguing from Nick the entire time
Aidan .
Wrong actually. Light doesnt show up on camera because itās not physical
J
Do absolutely none of you understand how camera lighting and exposure works? When you expose for low light and turn normal lights on it will be overexposed, that's what you're commenting on at 45 minutes. Aiden is still right and y'all are still falling for Nick's gaslighting.
J
Yeah Nick gaslighting him is what is keeping the argument in limbo I agree.
J
Except in this situation that would clearly be Nick playing the music and Aiden is the bus driver telling him to turn it off and Nick is gaslighting him about it saying everyone loves the music.
Potowama
like generally speaking nick arguing for 40 minutes about those overhead lights is valid. if i had the option i would also gaslight my best friend into thinking everyone hates him if it means i donāt have to sit under them at work

I feel like this is an issue thatās unique to a company with a lot of employees who are/were friends before and outside of the job. Cuz at any other company the owner or manager would just say āthis is how the lights will beā and nothing would happen unless every single worker spoke up. You guys could also just do āhomophobic lightsā between 8-5 PM to keep a professional line and then the āvibe lightsā afterwards idk bro this is insane for an episode topic š
Zack Schy
For some guys who constantly tell people on their advice show to "just communicate", it's insane that they can't just ask Aimen, "yo can I switch the lights to dim" when they're tryna catch a vibe at work.
Hunter DePretto
Okay, whatās crazy is that Nick and his beautiful mother created the problem. But are annoyed at Aiden for not creating the solution. Sure they give the solution, but Nick should just go out and get him the reading lamp if itās that big of a deal.
misterthezeem
Better advice episode than the advice show

It's so obvious Aiden is correct, and willing to work with the issue. But they just can't concede anything because its Aiden lmao.

Kenzie M
So after watching the ep and scrolling all the comment argument points, Aiden is probably technically right on the āwork lighting for a workspaceā argument, but the actual office lighting we saw was fucking crazy bright and awful. Moreover, Aiden has a tendency not to go full āme before theeā but definitely not to consider the needs of the many first or very much at all (in superficial arguments, I donāt doubt his moral compass lol). Itās very American of him, he just kinda goes āitās my right so Iām gonna do itā even when itās not the considerate choice. That really takes the wind out of the sails of his argument here, it sounds more like itās becoming a matter of righteousness and spite than an actual matter of practicality. A lamp solves everything, glasses would probably solve a lot. Also I think just in general they should buy softer bulbs for the overhead lights. Personally, I would never in a million years stand up and go turn on the lights when I know at least a couple people, if not everyone present in the room hates them, let alone regularly. Iād buy a freaking desk lamp.
Make3333
the lights are insanely bright and low in his defense

Why why
Thank you for bring up the donut. One of the craziest takes
tybahza
It's just common courtesy to let people know you're changing the lights real quick. Not unreasonable to need them on for a while when you need it for work, even with a 10-1 split. Just let your coworkers know and change them back. How did it grow to this large of an issue š
Mettle Dawn
the edit is awesome
tybahza
The only thing I hate more than those lights is the horde of AI techbro finance workers bitching about people not liking harsh lighting LMAO
Bobby
Holy shit that was a snooze
avery blalock

On the 25ish minute mark a more genuine comparison is Aiden is the Office Manager, second to the owner. Slime is the owners son and Nick is the Contracted IT guy who comes in often to work on the system.
10 Tails
Iāve never felt the need to comment on a video ever. But this argument is insane. First off, If the light is over 8k then Nick and slime are valid. But if not, Aiden wins. Itās an office where people work and anyone who doesnāt actually work there doesnāt have a valid opinion in the slightest. Itās to work not to vibe. Itās very ironic that the two people who donāt work there have such a strong opinion on what light is on in the WORK area. Sincerely, 26 year old truck driver

Please god no.

yeah the first 41 minutes were straight ass but the rest of the ep is a nice reflection at least
FlamingOranges
i was on aidens side from day 1 until nick turned on those same lights in the pod room that is just too much
Turner
Maybe Iām crazy, but I think if Aiden is the one working there and others come there mostly to play videogames and fuck around then he can do whatever he wants with the lights. Crazy 2v1 gaslighting going on here š
Jason Zasserr
I was on Aiden's side so strongly on this for weeks; he's doing work, he has to read physical mail, there's not a crazy strong wave of opinion like Nick was arguing before. It all seemed fair and reasonable, to a degree (outside of the instance when he just turned the lights over just because)- until minute 46. Oh my god, Aiden. Oh my god... Just irredeemable. I hope you do need glasses and it's all put to rest after that. Or at least the reading light helps. Sorry I doubted you, Nick
Konstantinos Panagiotopoulos

Donovan Dragon
Its not just about the work setting. It was them voicing out that he was being inconsiderate to others when he does it and him becoming defensive about it. It doesn't matter if it was a minority of people that didn't like the lights, its still inconsiderate to just turn them on without saying anything and it comes off as petty and on purpose because Aiden is a calculated person. It comes off as extremely selfish. The deeper problem is that Aiden gets defensive when he has moments that appear to be inconsiderate. It's like ya'll did not listen whatsoever...
Clay Hatcher
nick is effortlessly annoying
Andrew Foster
Couldnāt yall do this off the podcast lmao
Dylan Rexrode
I didnāt think it was possible but Aiden won

I just want a compilation of the entire lights saga, ending with this episode, so that I can show my neurodivergent, psych major younger brother. He's basically a straight, libertarian aiden, and I think this would be really helpful or at least insightful for him.
Daniel Lopez
I feel the need to say this after watching this show for so long. I donāt understand why Aiden always feels like selfishly taking whatever he wants whenever he wants is ALWAYS justified in his mind as basically receiving what he thinks he deserves because he perceives that everyone else has it better than him? Thatās the only reason I can think of to consistently have the audacity to go against the majority the way he does. If youāre reading this Aiden, you live in a collective of energies with other people and you seemingly have no respect for that reality or for the people around you when you do things like turn the lights on. Itās a simple act but actions speak loudly
tsugoth
as a psych major i absolutely loved this (and the matcha donut) episode! like slime said, it's very interesting to see 3 different approaches to the same problem & i enjoyed every second of it :D
ItsReidgd
If I were Aiden after Nick kept bitching about the overhead lights being on after the compromise of them being on when needed. I would have had them removed and announced that I removed them because Nick wouldn't stop bitching about the overheads even though the vibe lights were on most of the time.
AndrewVT
The argument seems to be widening from both ends. Becoming more extreme over time lol although I guess thats just the nature of making it a podcast topic Idk the layout of the space but why is it set up in a way where the people who are working are in the same room as the people who aren't working? I'd probably get pretty distracted working like that.
Will
Man, a lot to unpack here. One could argue Slime and Nick's need for softer lighting is a byproduct of psychosomatic ED issues. And of course Aimen wanting brighter lights is clearly tied to his pro-nordic beliefs. It seems like Ludwig's absence clearly creates a vacuum for the "alpha" figure of the group leading to higher tensions amongst the other members. I think there's a lot of benefit to these issues being studied further by professionals
lainey
aiden is just so right
Make3333
who thought this would be watchable wtf
Donovan Dragon
People that think this argument was really about the lights š this was an excellent display of communicating through issues between friends in order to learn about each other and their perspective. They kept dancing around the topic but Iām glad they finally confronted him about his behavior and him explaining where heās coming from and them validating his feelings but explaining their feelings regarding it.

Itās crazy this is even an argument. The gaslighting of Aiden is so crazy especially coming from someone who doesnāt work there. āIām here everyday tooā then leave? Why would someone need to show remorse about wanting light while they do their work lmao. Infuriating to listen to
Harrison
Was wondering if I was the only one that turned the ep off from annoyance that it kept going lmao
Sneakyo13
Love him to death, but Aiden the type of guy to hop on the bus with a Bluetooth speaker, with terrible, clipping, DnB playing. Then act surprised when people would prefer to listen to terrible bus sounds the whole time

Crazy people complained about this, banger ep
eleonar crimson
i feel like people who dont understand why this bit is going for longer than normal are missing what nick said during this episode. He was not a fan of aiden saying because you are not employed here you dont get to say/want the lights to be changed. He even said snarkily that "I did work here, i put in the work designing the office". That really is what is holding this argument in a limbo.
Logan Morrison
hear me out: the next 5 premium episodes are EXACTLY like this so we weed out all of the annoying people who feel the need to complain so much in the comments lmao
snoiny
idk, i saw the lights on twitter and ngl i switched from being on aiden's side to nick's get that man a desk lamp
Cooper
Chad Aimen who uses something when needed. I canāt get past the idea of just asking āyo, can I turn these off or you working?ā When walking into the office if the overhead lights are on. Nick and slime legit are giving shy as fuck coworkers who canāt speak up for themselves. As a student in grad school to become a therapist, Iām gonna diagnose nick and slime with fucking schizophrenia with how insane yāall are
Dylan Croft
I liked the in depth analysis
Gabe
I am on team Aiden here guys. As much as I am a fan of chill lighting, you guys have no idea what you are talking about. Even as a gamer myself who loves sitting in the dark... who also has a full time job and does music too on the side. GIVE AIDEN HIS LIGHT TO DO HIS REAL WORK. Also Nick is being dishonest, he did present it as if everyone is on his side and agrees with him 10000%. He did shift the goalpost to meet him in the middle but that is how he presented it for so long haha. I do think there was a lot of healthy discussion that came out of a ridiculous discussion of an argument perpetuated by people not working against people actually working though. And while in a broad out of context discussion Nick and Slime's point stands, in the working environment, Aiden's point is much stronger.
Michael LaManna
Aiden is 100% correct, right?
Brandon
Wow
Callahan McGinty
First episode I actually couldn't finish, what are we doing here guys
Calvin Fullerton
Glad this is the most upvoted comment i hope he sees it
Ernesto Gutierrez
This episode sucks and aiden is right. They are a bunch of man children who are used to having no lights on because gamers and when they actually get to a work environment they can't hang lmao.
SrirachaGamer
By far the worst thing about this stupid discussion is the fact that they keep arguing past eachother. Aiden wants lighting that allows him to do his job in his office, Nick simply likes the chill lights more. I genuinely don't understand how this is even a discussion to begin with, as Aiden is so clearly right and Nick's opinion is so clearly irrelevant.
dust
Solution: no communal lights, everyone must get a personal desk lamp, head lamp, light strips, etc.
Jordan Borromeo
Why doesn't aiden just get a little desk lamp
bluestofblues
this is why we can't pick Ludwig to get rid of, it would turn into a pod about trinkets and overhead lights
Courtney J
Loool! I was thinking about that, too. xD
Courtney J
Yes! This is my takeaway as well.
Byron
I'm pretty sure this episode is a great litmus test for the Yard fans to see a) who actually works b) how old/mature someone is c) who's parasocial

This one is not nearly as bad as the matcha doughnut or the dogs in coffee shops argument
Shae Kababy
This whole lights debate was honestly just a great example of how to navigate disagreements in a healthy way, engage in productive thought exercises, and learn how to better communicate with your loved ones by understanding their style of communication and clarifying everyoneās perspective/feelings instead of just assuming. Good shit, this is exactly why I happily give yāall my money.

Courtney J
Yeah, I agree on continuing the episode. Based on some of the stuff I saw pop up on reddit before I had a chance to watch/listen to the episodes I was expecting this to be awful but it's really not. Especially when some people can let their emotions get the best of them, they kept recentering themselves or each other which kept it from escalating and stuck through the conversation. I guess maybe younger or less emotionally educated people could see this as an awful argument but I agree with you that it was constructive and between friends who are allowed to disagree or not always get along swimmingly all the time. The fact they're able to have conversations like these with each other instead of just blowing up, shutting down, and walking away says a lot and in my personal life I prefer friends who can ride through the not so fun shit with me and not just around or only invested in the easy/fun things.

Peak lawnmower content. Aiden pls just buy a desk lamp and keep being right for4ver king. Nick on his 547th time of being a chronic Californian and not actually on island time.
Courtney J
And all while Aiden is there trying to do work.... If Aiden can respect the fact most people prefer the softer lights and only uses the brighter ones when needed for work then the others should respect the times he needs them on for work. I feel like Aiden was made aware and cared enough about everyone else to look into it and change his habits to respect the others and some of the others are refusing to meet him halfway. :/ I feel like I need to step in as a mom and teach them about sharing. If Aiden is there first and has the light on, the people coming in can simply ask if they can turn it off if he's done with them or if he still needs them instead of being upset they're on in the first place the second you enter the room. This is a shared space between work office space and fun time space and should go both ways respectively. I feel Aiden has already made strides in the right direction and instead of meeting him halfway they keep shifting the goal post. But I'm only a bystander to all of this. I'm not there or involved and all I know is what I've heard on the pod so that's all I can comment on. What's crazy is I HATE overhead lights and never use them in my own home so I totally get the side that doesn't like them so it's crazy it's gone as far as it has to where I'm siding with the one that wants them on xD but I am just a neutral unbiased outsider to all of this that ultimately has zero involvement. Just sharing my thoughts, takeaways, opinions, etc. that sparked when reading your comment š«¶
Dimst
Also when slime dinked 43 minutes. that was insane.

Worst EP of the yard easily. Worse than donuts, worse than aiden and Ludwig arguing about mapslop, worse than the 3 episode debate about who's more popular between the Pope and trump

I usually listen to the pod audio only, but I am glad I watched this one

what about a lamp for aidenās desk

Get lamp man. :) Cute hip techy little desk lamp. take almost no desk space and controls your space without disrupting others. since others dont need the light. without doubt will still get razz, but it not bother other people.

Idk man, youāre a grown adult working at a company and youāre upset someone turned the lights on? Why not a simple āYo Aiden turn those off once youāre doneā, Instead of the weird looking around and silently being upset. Aiden canāt read peopleās mind to know they prefer it off and once a poll was made he started being more conscious about turning on the lights people like unless heās alone which is valid. - holy fuck matcha donut was insane.

Nick calling Aiden selfish for needing the lights a certain way, but not recognizing that them being so stubborn about the cozy lights thus inconveniencing Aiden is also extremely selfish. And to yell at him for doing so as well.

I totally relate to nickās comment on vod reviewing themselves. I realize I do this for my d&d sessions. I vod review to recognize things I need to do better as the DM
Ethan Holland
Since you asked for psyche people to chime in, I think it's just a courtesy thing. If someone is changing the environment with multiple people in it abruptly it's respectful to warn people before hand, and shift it back to the status quo when you're done. It's also respectful to acknowledge if you're in the space on your own and someone new comes in and you know they prefer the lights another way to acknowledge them and go "hey you can switch the lights if you want I don't need them like this" it's just always communication to remain respectful. This was a really fun episode by the way, loved the psychological deep dive into all of you as a psych person that was super fun to listen to.

Ep was good but this was Nicks worst bit
Shawn W
Announcing in some way you're turning the lights on is polite because lights being turned on suddenly can be an uncomfortable sensation. If "enjoying lighting of room and then guy shows up and turns on big harsh light" wasn't a universal annoying experience that everyone has been trained to reluctantly accept, then Aiden would be getting more pushback. Also this a great episode and the haters wish they could ponder the mundane this deeply.
Will Rozak
Look out, Bully Nick is on the prowl
Drey Dilley
Definitely on Aiden's side, but why doesnt he realise the cool aura of turning on a nice desk lamp to read letters like in a noir film.

Okay ultimately I think both the original criticism of Aiden, and his justification is fine. Buuut if you're going to go into the psychoanalysis space I think you have to do it from the lens of being impartial to the original debate imo. If you just pivot from criticism of someones behaviour with a smug tone to a deep analysis of that persons behaviour it feels weaponized to win the argument and doesnt pass the aita check even if you are right. I think the breakdown and investigation of why people act the way they do, is very interesting and engaging and you guys are incredible communicators, the resolution was productive to give Aiden strats to address his needs in a more personable way. Its a good ep as an exploration of communication in friendships and the ironic laugh track is fitting. Thank you for sharing, The Ill mind of aimen gamin' 5. I cant wait to go watch the main ep and lighten the vibe with a different topic of conversation..
George Stathoris
Okay I just saw the twitter video. Aiden is exaggerating a bit I think.
omelet
I don't think changing the lights is crazy especially when It has use, turning them back off would be crazy because aiden turned them off because he needs them. Also it's totally understandable aimen prefers the overhead lights because it's an office, a workplace, they make you more efficient you don't want to be in Mahalo when grinding. Reading light is crazy
George Stathoris
Dim yellowish lights are better for your eyes when you look at a screen for a long time. Also we, the audience, need to know how low the light actually is because if it's at the level of their podcast studio you can easily still read it I think. Anyway, I wish slime would share what he thinks about the new mgs3 remake and if he's gonna play it because I remember he really likes the MGS games.

I think even if you prefer the chill mahalo lights that its acknowledgeable that brighter lights are more conducive to a productive work environment to some degree. Theres a reason its the standard. or maybe im smokin balls and should die, but i think theres more to this argument than which we as individuals would prefer. what you want vs what you need type beat. yet aiden somehow still remains to be more absurd, even though i agree that turning on the lights is chill. hes just gotta admit that he's owned then turn the lights on. too much pushback when ur clearly owned here.

Not to jump on the bandwagon here, but def on the side of Aiden. Except for the reading light thing, he could definitely do that and all problem's are solved. I don't think Nick is being malicious or "a dick", I think he's just curious but he went about it in a way that sounds really mean to some people (check the comments). If you stopped watching because of the argument, I implore you to continue watching if it isn't going to trigger any trauma response. It's honestly a pretty good representation of how you can disagree, misunderstand, and argue with your friends AND still love them for who they are.

Ok I finished it, it gets better. Nick is right when he says his progression each year has been to become less defensive. Also right that this is a bad episode to point that out

I dont think everyone has to be so upset⦠they are all friends and have gone through much more than what we see so this is just a very real conversation that happens when emotions get pent up. Mynameisrow
This is probably the only time I've seen Nick draw out an argument that wasn't because he was unequivocally right, or he had a punchline, he was just wrong, and it could have easily been ended 5 minutes after Aiden revealed the poll numbers, this is like when Slime stole a desk, and demanded that he be allowed to be there despite not working there, and admitting to being annoying to the people actively working, at a certain point, the only thing that matters is the work, and if you're messing with the work, then you just need to find somewhere better to hang out at
Ethan ProvenƧal
I never wanna hear about the lights again. Nick please repent for your relentless targeting of Aimen!

My only thoughts on the light situation is that it's crazy that Aimen wouldn't say anything as he's turning on the lights. I feel like you'd say something just for the sake of letting people know there's going to be a change in the brightness. I have an astigmatism though so maybe I'm biased
Myriapoda03
Lights aside.. I would love if the yard dnd kept going and got another campaign! Iāve been loving it so far.
Jason Kellogg
By your logic Aiden is wrong then. Heās literally the only one in the office that wants the fluorescent lights on. Thereās an abundantly clear majority against him lol.
Aaron Kerper
To be fair, the camera and color balance isnt set up for those lights so its prolly a lil worse in vid than irl
Jason Kellogg
Fluorescent lights are the bane of my existence. I think the core of the issue is that aiden would rather inconvenience the people who dislike it than spend a little extra money to elevate the workplace experience for everyone (himself included). As he said, the real solution is to get more warm lights to properly light the area. A reading light is a really easy stop gap solution though. Also, as someone who has responded to these kinds of surveys before, aiden is pretty much everyoneās boss. They all know he wants the lights on⦠thereās kind of a power dynamic there that i would hazard potentially skews the results into a more āindecisiveā area lol.
Allen Gray
I really gotta stop giving these people money....it's an office space, if work can't be done because the lights are too dim, the lighting is bad, if Nick cares so much he should buy the fucking lamp for Aiden.
Jacob Gutierrez
memes aside this feels like a normal entertaining episode if you think the maccha donut episode was peak then this shouldn't be making you reconsider your patreon sub

It's an office space turn the lights on and quit bitching. Crazy anybody even cares at all when its a work space.
cone
yeah i agree. Yard has never made me actually angry or annoyed listening until the lights argument. Nick and Slime are mostly just rage baiting Aiden and calling this a debate. The premo was more of an actual discussion instead of just poking aiden, but the experience altogether was terrible and i ended up fastforwarding and skipping (havent done before)
Sam
Dude aiden is going to walk into the office and just magically have a monitor light installed and this convo will never be mentioned again
Eris
How is Aiden always ganged up when he's just objectively correct most of the time
Jordan Wright
give aiden a separate office or schedule dedicated reading time with a cutoff and an alert system so everyone knows
Byron
No that's actually it. If Slime or Nick gifted Aiden a reading light and he refused to use it then that would just be insane but if he uses it than it solves everything.
Byron
This episode felt like a season finale. Special shout out to the live studio audience that takes this episode from A tier to S tier. Btw I'm on Aiden's side because at a company the ability to do your work should be the highest priority over anything else...but... y'all make too much money to just not get a reading light
Emma

For those that voted indifference I wonder if that is indifference to whatever the default state is upon arrival and if a change of that state would be something that they would have an opinion on. Like I donāt care what it is, but donāt change it because thatās distracting.
Sóley Nótt
I think you might be reading to deep into this. If it wasnāt low stakes they presumably wouldnāt have published it?

Seems to that people could simply say to Aiden āhey mind if I turn off the lights?ā And fix it themselves. Aiden isnāt the only one that has permission to touch the light switch I assume?

I think hitting a comment up front will also reduce your need and therefore tendency to get defensive afterwards, which from personal experience can be a load off even as someone who is also very communicative but afraid of being perceived as careless or selfish

While true this entire argument can be solved by buying a lamp, itās crazy to make someone do it when itās a non-issue to turn it back on.
C45
Jesus Lord Christ almighty, I've never once felt like commenting on an episode until this argument. Aiden is right. I worked in an office where the lights on/off were a problem. The person who gets to the office first chooses the lights at first and the people who come later get to change them based an the majority preference in the room (indifferent don't count either way). If it's very often a 50/50 you just take turns. On top of this if someone needs to change the lights for a bit cause we are WORKING in an OFFICE then they turn them on and no one bats an eye cause we're WORKING in a fucking OFFICE. The assumption they need to get work done is built in cause we're in an office, no need to announce how sorry you are you need to work in an office.
jbmen01
Personally i really liked this ep. Really gives insight on how they look at communication and how they act. :)

look i think nick and slime are being a little on his neck about it but letās be real, when he flipped the switch and they all turned to ghouls š reading light is the solution
Gabriel Kilwein
I think Slime is right that Aiden should announce when he turns on the lights because it can be jarring if the light disparity is as large as they make it seem. I also think there is a power disparity between Aiden and everyone else to where other people would be hesitant to turn the lights on or off. However, I think itās fair that Aiden turns on the lights when he has to work on a specific thing or when he gets in the office first because he does have a lot of responsibility at the company and wants to perform his job as best he can. Commenters might not find this argument entertaining, but I think it is interesting when they use the argument to pivot to a conversation exploring each otherās personalities and how they move through the world.
bub
this has been one of my favorite episodes ever.
Logan Kelso
lmao these are the same guys telling you to "communicate" in the Advice Show
Austyn Manning
i can believe i spend money to listen to three thirty year olds arguing over fucking lights
Garrett Storm
The lights arenāt the issue, the issue is Aiden not caring heās the ONLY one that wants them one way and is/was turning on the other lights only because HE wants them on. If heās the only one in the office whatever, if he asks the others in the office if he can turn them on or if anyone cares before doing so then fine, whatever, but thatās not what happens it sounds like Aiden just assumes it doesnāt matter and since he doesnāt care then itās fine if he just puts the lights he wants on because he prefers them or wants them on to do something, etc
SquirtleSquady
Aiden clutching with the dick out argument
Daniel
I thought this whole saga was all jokes. In reality kinda makes both nick and Aiden seem a little weird. The space they are chilling in is an office not a living room so itās weird to expect something else. But on the other hand if it does bother people as much as nick and slime say, why not order a couple lamps to light up your area. There really is no friction to going to the store quickly or even giving your money to Bezos.
zaina
also yeah sure itās annoying that aiden doesnāt just get a personal reading light but the implication that overhead lights make the office a completely unworkable space is ridiculous lmao
Max Dowell
and the people getting all up in arms about this stuff need to shudup. if listening to this made you uncomfortable in some way thats more representative of things going on for yourself that are yours to deal with. it isnt your place to comment on a friendship that is clearly healthy if you watch any other episode where they get into it like this. even on THIS episode (the most egregious "offender" of the 214) you can tell by how the argument resolves that their dynamic and friendship isn't suffering and will not suffer because of something like this. if you really have a problem, skip the ep and wait for next week's without commenting on a relationship that isnt yours to comment on. calling the ep bad is fine or not fun to listen to is fine thats ur opinion u can share, but if youre mad enough about the episode that makes up 1/4th of what your 5 dollars this month has gone towards to pipe up about where your money is going, implore you to dig deep and ask yourself, is it really worth getting upset about?
zaina
they keep saying low stakes lol but this feels so obviously deeper than office lights and maybeeeee shouldāve been discussed off pod idk
PotatoSnatcher
I thought this was a fun little argument, and wasnt half as heated as the macha donut one. Yall overhyped how "bad" this episode was gonna be

Well no we need to hear luds opinion on all this still so i figure we got another episode or two about the lights coming

i was so surprised to see people hating on the main and this ep this week. as someone who has taken part in many a stupid argument with friends i loved listening to these, i didnt even register that they felt different than a normal episode.

Whatās also wild about this argument is that the soft lights are relatively new so everyone else has worked under Aidenās lights for years but now itās an issue?
SnorlaxBTW
42:549 That was crazy
Avery Schrader
Aiden is right about turning the lights on, but should acknowledge when he does, and also it should be reframed because aiden isnt turning the lights on just bc he likes it. The job says lights have to be on to read and aiden has to do his job. Just blame the job. Also im with him on the reading light because principally he shouldnt have to spend extra money to do his job at work because other people want the lights dimmer lowk insane lol
Jak Sanzo
this argument has to end with nick and slime getting aiden a reading light for him. peace treaty for better content
Sam F
Thats just not equivalent what the fuck are you talking about dude
Squillz
it's so fucking funny, i forgot i read a comment about the audience track and it caught me off guard. my favorites were the "Mm"s when Nick was spitting some points
Squillz
exactly. Aiden even admitted that when they first had the new (low level) lights installed, he was inconsiderate about leaving them on all the time and now he's more diligent about it
Sean
I'm only a few minutes in but I keep thinking of the argument by replacing lights with playing music on a speaker. It would just be strange to blast music in an office when you need to work instead of just buying headphones.
Cadel Hammond
Aiden won me over with the dick out argument.
throatygoaty

Wompie
Also, you guys can just build him his own office. Get him a little glass office so he can feel like a big wig
Wompie
It's funny the split of people that thnik Aiden si right vs. the other guys. It's a very cut and dry thing if you have ever worked in an office. Aiden is being incredibly selfish and thinks that his way is the way that is completely logical because why would anyone else want lights in the office that aren't office lights? I think for a quick little experiment they should make Aiden work in a real office (not in gaming) for a year.
Anisa
peak slop. this is EXACTLY what i paid for

everybody commenting about the argument but we gotta address the live audience track is actually perfect

The craziest part to me about this whole discussion is Nick framing it as Aiden constantly having the bright lights on and Aiden saying he only ever does it for work, if Aiden is being truthful here then Nick is a crazy person for having any issue with it
Adrian Dupre
harkonnen ass lighting
Tyler Yatos
that lighting switch was brutal
Chuck
Aiden is right about the lights and I'm so tired of hearing two unemployed guys harass him about an office having overhead lights on.
Squillz
so 2 guys who don't actually work at the office unnecessarily clowning on the guy who does work at the office needing to use the office lights to do some of his office work. Why are slime and nick trying to psycho-analyze Aiden over something so incredibly simple? "Hey, maybe be more considerate about the office lights and when you use them." Is as far as this debate realistically needs to go.
Jacob Gutierrez
