When I was a kid I think I got actually addicted to the (don't laugh) Roarin' Waters from Capri Sun which are artificially sweetened water based drinks. This is the second time yall have had a “Diet Coke is bad for u” segment and it kills me every time cause it’s just straight unadulterated misinformation from the tap. 😭 idk why this study out of all studies got NL cause it’s the exact same shit as all the others. Study comes out, results are mild -> sensationalized article comes out, blows everything out of proportion, people get scared. The study said that Diet Coke MIGHT age your brain if you drink it constantly in your middle ages. And when I say age, I mean compared to the average person a 60 year olds brain would have been 61. This is a “maybe there’s something there we should look into it” not a “OMG WE’RE COOKED ITS ALL OVER” study. We don’t just guess that Diet Coke is fine for us. We presume it is since aspartame is THE MOST STUDIED FOOD SUPPLEMENT EVER! If you are going to drink coffee without worry of effects from caffeine, you should do the EXACT SAME for Diet Coke since aspartame is more studied than caffeine.

Diet Coke is also acidic which is harmful to the enamel on your teeth and, if being consumed in an exaggerated amount, can lead to rapid tooth decay which quickly becomes irreversible and leads to cavities, discolouration and eventual tooth loss. The main demographic to want to consume diet soda is people who want to lose weight, which is the actual primary reason for diseases being shown correlated with artificial sweetener (correlation vs causation) However, I agree that there is often hidden consequences to things we consider safe, and we should not stop researching things for safety. It is just that the reasons against diet soda are currently not valid based on current research. I think the argument of "no free lunch" is pretty lame as a reason against something

Don't know if they'll read this (and I'm not a RF engineer, although I am in an the same department) but a good explanation of wireless transmission that I like is that the transmitter is a big flashlight that flickers on and off in a specific "colour" (frequency, which kind of is colour) that we can't see. I drink diet coke because I like the flavor of diet coke. The zero calories is a nice bonus that I appreciate. If it disappeared off the planet I probably would switch to coke zero because I like the zero calories but also because I like the flavor more than most other equivalents.

The diet coke (and all diet pop) studies are basically never conclusive, are poorly studied and at best say there's a correlation between diet soda drinkers and some sort of illness. (Hint, it's usually that the people drinking diet sodas have a bad diet and lifestyle outside of the soda) Diet sodas are functionally empty. Like drinking them is almost the equivalent and tasty air that you then piss out. (Almost)

The DC studies are still only correlation based reporting. There's still no definitive evidence that diet soda causes liver disease and the main study that is referenced is based on self reported drinkers that consume over 1 diet soda drink a day. I think if you have a diet soda every once in a while as a nice little treat you're fine.
