Coming To America is my favorite Eddie Murphy flick besides Shrek.
This one hasn't aged well with me. In hindsight, Siskel and Ebert were correct with their thumbs down reviews, observing that it's basically a one joke premise "smart Eddie Murphy/dumb Beverly Hills". Trading Places and Coming to America have held up so much better. And hopefully sooner, rather than later, you'll get to Bowfinger.

The second one is also really good. The third one is okay.

Agreed - I have no idea how well 48 Hrs holds up, but I loved it when it came out - it made him a movie star overnight

You should do another Eddie Murphy cop movie called 48 Hours, which was his first movie, BTW. He made it (and Trading Places) when still a cast member of Saturday Night Live
Jonathan
He was also in Gremlins
Chel Van Hel
Judge Reinhold (Billy) played the brother in Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Bill Bevins
For other Eddie Murphy movies check out 48 Hours, The Nutty Professor, Dr Doolittle and Shrek. A good movie with Judge Reinhold (Billy) is Ruthless People. You also saw Judge Reinhold in Stripes.

Charlie distracted you and caused you to miss a bunch of funny little moments. I think another reason that it didn't meet a certain expectation is because you watched it after you watched Trading Places and Coming to America. Personally, I think you would enjoy BHC2 a bit more because of some side-stories and the addition of a few more big name actors. I hope you'll consider watching it down the line.

More of a now vs then, probably. It was likely less of a problem in the '80s/'90s than it is today.

But only in movies, is my guess. I can't imagine a real cop finding a bag of white or brown powder, and putting it in their mouth. Forget policy, or legality; it could kill them.

Cops 'taste' cocaine because it makes the tongue tingly- think novocaine.

Great reaction...I can remember 1st seeing this at the movies on a very wild and adventurous double date lol...Lt. Bogomil was played by Ronny Cox who you saw as the villainous Dick Jones in Robocop...Serge was played by Bronson Pinchot who not much later starred in a hit TV show Perfect Strangers playing basically a variation of the Serge character for laughs...Jenny was played by Lisa Eilbacher and some other decent films with her are 10 to Midnight(1983) also starring Charles Bronson and Leviathan(1989) which is basically an underwater version of Alien
