Thanks for this! My dad loved this movie! According to my dad, who passed 5 years ago today, they didn't want to play "modern music" because so much of it at the time was protest music, and they feared it would hurt morale, and spark dissension among the ranks. Dad was on the USS Cleveland from '67 - '69.
