The classic monsters are called Universal monster movies. That includes King Kong and every monster you seen in Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein.

I just came here to write about her passing. Gena Rowlands was simply amazing. I loved her in every movie of hers that I've watched. I recently watched Woman Under the Influence and she is absolutely brilliant in it. I have a feeling that we'll be watching The Notebook on the channel (which I love!) but I hope Ashleigh will dive into the rest of her catalog somewhere down the line.

Hi Ashleigh, the Classic Monster films are certainly deserving of your attention, after all they started the whole genre for you to have Hallobeans. It would also be interesting to see you react to the Hammer Horror series of films. (Christopher Lee & Peter Cushing, in particular) As suggested by Emilee Orf, for a change of pace, I`d like to see you react to the comedy/horror films by Abbot & Costello. :)

Also, if you ever get the chance to see any of these movies in a theater with live musical accompaniment you should absolutely do so! There are a few musical groups the score original pieces for these movies, and experiencing them live is almost always incredible! (I realize this doesn't help Ashleigh with her channel, but I'm still recommending it.)

And instead of watching the absolutely terrible JP sequels, I recommend you watch the 1973 film Westworld (and maybe that movie’s own sequel). It’s a script written by Jurassic Park’s author about a theme park populated with androids instead of dinosaurs.

I hope Hunger Games gets added to a future franchise poll. Not sure what to vote for here. Part of me says to keep going with the Muppets, but the OG monster movies are so good. HallowBeans is just around the corner, though. I really only liked the first Jurassic Park and MiB only has 3 good films. And I've only watched one Bond movie in my life; not really a fan of spy movies in general. Decisions, decisions!

I said MIB because it has a little more emotional weight than the other films. It’s easily digestible and arguably gets better with each film, as opposed to a few films in the other series that get casually chosen to be forgotten or omitted (like some are saying in the comments).

I voted for the Muppets since you’re clearly enjoying the series, but I really hope you end up including their worthwhile tv specials like The Muppet Family Christmas (the unedited version that includes Sesame Street is on YouTube), The Muppets Go to Disney World, and The Muppets Celebrate Jim Henson (also freely available to watch on YouTube). All three are fun, even if the last one can be heartbreaking. The Universal Monsters is worth watching for a Hallobeans month, especially since they really were the first established universe with a continuity (as loosely as I can use the word) even predating the MCU and home video. Unfortunately, while you’d already seen the final movie in the series which was the Abbott and Costello film, you don’t know the events that lead up to how Dracula knows the Frankenstein monster, or why the Wolf Man is so hellbent on taking Drac out.

I love the Muppets but the only problem is when Jim Henson died and Disney took over, the movies weren’t as good so everything from The Muppets Wizard of Oz and after is not the same.

The classic Universal monster movies (Frankenstein, Dracula, The Mummy, etc.) are well worth watching, but I hope that one day you will get around to watching some of the silent horror movies. They are visually sunning! The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror (1922, the original vampire movie) The Man Who Laughs (1928, an inspiration for the Joker in the Batman comics) The Golem (1920, an inspiration for the Frankenstein creature) Faust (1926)

Watching The Universal Monsters can easily become a dry, academic task. That said, the basics are informative. Again this year, I would recommend a double feature of Frankenstein/Bride of Frankenstein. They are both short and play as one movie.

Jurassic Park, meh. The sequels are of increasing diminishing quality. Classic Universal Monsters. Bride of Frankenstein and Son of Frankenstein are essential. You will get a lot more jokes from Young Frankenstein if you watch those. A double feature of the original Nosferatu (It is pretty short) and Shadow for the Vampire from 2000. You can't go wrong will Malkovich and Defoe. The original Dracula is a classic. Freaks is a great movie. Get a little elevated and put your editor on overtime. The Invisible Man is very funny, and the effects are very impressive for the 1930s. The Creature from the Black Lagoon is a prerequisite for Del Toro's Oscar winning The Shape of Water.

After a short break I'm ready for Bond again! Can't wait for The Spy and Moonraker, in some way Bonds finest: completely bananas and over the top :D However Jurassic and Men in Black are so much fun too! Don't get the Muppets though, I can remember begging my parent for months to get the Christmas Carol when I was 8 or so... but never really cared for it ever again. Didn't know it was still so popular, tricky, so many people with such different childhood memories... ah well I'm sure it's gonna be fun either way!
