Ashleigh, I know this movie isn't in your poll, but you really, really have to do a reaction of "The Holiday" with Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, and Jack Black. Definitely positive this is a Christmas romantic comedy you will enjoy. I know it's still fairly new, but Rise of the Guardians (2012) is a great movie! Not necessarily a Christmas movie, but a fun winter-ish one!

me too! Prancer is really cute... Jack Frost, well Micheal Keaton, 'nuff said. And Four Christmases is pretty funny.. So sad not to see The Family Stone didn't make it on the list again, but I'm holding out hope that's the end of the year one.

I highly recommend Home for the Holidays. Though it's a Thanksgiving movie, the universal theme of going home to see your family is relevant year-round. It is just such a good movie! I watch it every year 🤗

I'm confused on a few points. 1) You wrote, “Watch movies without critics influencing your opinion.” You also said, “Be your own person, not copy and paste opinions.” You seem to think people let their opinions of films be influenced by the opinions of other people. Do you do that? How would that even work? Do you read reviews and then watch the movie and think “I would have disliked this, but I read reviews that say it is good, so I like it?” Do you watch a film first and love it but then speak with a friend who says they hated it so you decide you hated it, too? That seems bizarre. I don’t do that and I don’t know anyone who does. Regardless, that is plainly *not* what I suggested anyone do and I am confused as to why you think that is what anyone would suggest. 2) Perhaps you misspoke throughout your post? Maybe you meant that one should not let people’s opinions influence one’s CHOICE of which films to watch. If you aren’t going to use other people’s opinions about films to narrow your choices when deciding where to spend your time and money, what information DO you use? Trailers/commercials? Interviews with the actors? Description blurbs written by the producers? The poster? That’s all marketing. Any info about a film other than a neutral party’s opinion comes from the people trying to convince you to give them your money. That’s why the hilarious YouTube channel, Screen Junkies, has their insanely funny series called “Honest Trailers.” (https://www.youtube.com/@screenjunkies/videos) You can’t trust anything producers say. 3) It’s ironic that you suggest we shouldn’t use opinions to filter our options when deicing what to watch. (Again, assuming that is what you meant instead of what you wrote.) This is literally an *opinion* poll. Ashleigh is literally asking for the *opinion* of others re: which movie to watch. We are her movie critics during this poll and it is our reviews she is using to decide which films to watch. If you think you should ignore the opinions of others when picking, then why are you ever participating in this poll discussion? Happy watching!

Cass&Jason - Really? Something in this world isn't 100% consistent? :-) Seriously, though... art is obviously subjective. The point is to provide people a better starting point of choices and then see what they like out of those. I love some pretty bad films, but I recognize that my reasons for loving them usually have to do with sentimentality or some similar emotion. I wouldn't recommend them to someone unless I was very familiar with their tastes. To directly respond to your point about ET, I must point out: 1) I literally said, "I am working on averages, here!" 2) I said "Ashleigh *regularly* enjoys films that are critically acclaimed MUCH more than ones that aren't." I did not say she *always* enjoys them. The world is not one of absolutes. But it IS a world of bell curves and averages. Why wouldn't we want to give any viewer a higher average starting point from which they can experience films? :-)

ET has a 99% RT score. We all know how she feels about that movie. I don't think any of us should assume how Ashleigh will feel about a movie. We all recommend movies for our own reasons -- sometimes because we like them, sometimes because we think she'll like them, sometimes because they're good cinema. Art is subjective.

Wow, before rewatching the trailer, I totally forgot Mixed Nuts existed. Never saw it, and now I'm old enough to get the jokes. Seeing it is gonna be like a Christmas present I never opened. After seeing Christmas with the Kranks every year for the past 3 years, I'm totally into silly/unconventional family Christmas movies so I wanna give either that or Home for the Holidays a whirl.

Before people yell about critics ratings and whatnot, I acknowledge that tastes and unique. BUT, Ashleigh regularly enjoys films that are critically acclaimed MUCH more than ones that aren't. (As do most people.) I am working on averages, here! Mixed nuts is one of those movies that I didn't even like the first time but it grew on me and now I love rewatching it at Christmas. So while it could be fun to watch I kinda get why it's not going over so well on the poll lol.
