Nerd intrusion! At the start, the song Gunn sang was "Three Little Maids" from my favorite Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, "The Mikado". It's a satiric look at 19th century England by using a mythical sort of Japan as the vehicle, and is very, very funny: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHHumS1zeNQ There's an absolutely delightful movie about how this absolutely delightful work was created. It's called "Topsy Turvy". As for the story Wesley reads to Fred, that is one of my favorite early childhood books, "A Little Princess" by Frances Hodgson Burnett. She also wrote "The Secret Garden". At the age of about seven, when I first read "A Little Princess", I identifed a lot with Sara Crewe, a bookish, imaginative child who loves history and brings dolls to life in her imagination. Another episode I have been waiting on since the beginning of this Angel journey, I both dread and love this episode. The first half gives us the obvious pair up we had been waiting on for so long, and then the second half brutally tears it away. Personally, this one hits me harder than "The Body" episode in Buffy.

This is the episode I've been waiting for, Fred is a top 5 character for me in the whole Buffyverse, and of course her death is devastating, but I honestly love Illyria too! I wish we had more than like 6 episodes with her, I feel like if Angel got another season she could have filled an Anya-like role (Anya is my favorite Buffyverse character)
