I think the reason "Sound of Music" has better known songs is mainly because it's one of the biggest hit films ever. A TON of people saw it in theaters and on TV. "My Fair Lady" did very well at the box office, but it wasn't the huge hit "Sound of Music" was. Lots of people have speculated Higgins was gay, so you've got company on that opinion.

Correct, she was dubbed by Marni Nixon who also sang for Natalie Wood in West Side Story and Deborah Kerr in The King & I. She also played one of the nuns in The Sound of Music. Dubbing singing voices for popular actors who didn’t have classically trained voices was a common practice by the movie studios back in the day.

If you need more Audrey Hepburn films, I'd love to see your reaction to The Children's Hour! It's a serious film, which would be a nice change from this version of Audrey Hepburn.

That wasn't Audrey Hepburn singing in this movie. You heard her real singing voice in Breakfast at Tiffany's, when she sang Moon River. It's light and pleasant, but not powerful, precise, or trained.

I would suggest, when you are presented with a movie with an intermission, just pause it and take a break. In the case of "Gone with the Wind," which is four hours, please watch the first half, give us a reaction, and then save the second half to the next uploading. The same with "Lawrence of Arabia". There is so much going with these films, you need a break to digest.

I grew up in a rural area outside of Memphis, and had about a dozen speech impediments. I had a stutter, and I couldn't pronounce a third of the alphabet correctly. I was in speech therapy from preschool through 7th grade, and a lot of the techniques used were similar to this movie. I had to pronounce certain things with things in my mouth, I had to overly pronounce certain letters, and the result is that my accent has been warped. Even though my sister sounds like if someone made biscuits and gravy come to life, I can't speak in a proper southern accent to save my life. People who don't know me and/or are from another part of the country actively tilt their head and get a confused look while they try to figure out my accent. I often get asked about it.

Jeremy Brett, who plays Freddy, was most famous for playing Sherlock Holmes on British TV. He was very good. Like Audrey, he worked hard on his singing voice, but was dubbed.

If you're ever in the mood for some Rex Harrison goodness, I suggest the original Dr. Dolittle from 1965. It's also a musical.

Yes, in the original "Pygmalion" she leaves Henry for good. She and Freddy set up a flower shop and they are doing quite well.

Henry is such a jerk. Everyone is a jerk to Eliza, but she still fell in love with him. She was perfection at the ball and he didn't even acknowledge how far she'd come. And yes, he basically helped her move up in "class" and after how he treated her, she didn't belong anywhere anymore and it hurt her. It still makes me mad that she went back to Henry and he was such an ass when she came back.
