🕑 Added 2017-08-23 21:50:28 +0000 UTC There's going to be a mech vs kaiju battle in the story, but I didn't want it to be a standard robotmans mech.This thing is inspired by an american cold war era cruise missile experiment. The idea being that a nuclear ramjet could power a nuclear cruise missile, give it infinite range, *and* kill everyone in a wide area with its unshielded reactor.
This mech is similar - it is partially based off of alien tech, but they were unable to reverse-engineer the reactors so they had to build it with an unshielded fission reactor.
They lift them into orbit in pieces, assemble them there, and can deorbit them onto an enemy country whenever, wherever they want. Even if the enemy defeats it, they will suffer heavy casualties due to the radiation alone.
Its armament is conventional, but it has nuclear ramjets that allow it to land, and fly short distances. It is not expected to survive a deployment, and is equipped with a non-nuclear self-destruct system.
The craft is piloted by remote. (The craft's interior is shielded from radiation, but once it's been activated, it's impossible to get out without soaking up a lethal dose.)
also: I updated the image in post 07, I think it looks better balanced with a slightly larger right thigh.

what could possibly go wrong here, what good could come from this. can't wait to find out how big the problem is going to be.
