A lot of the comics i read lately use this same method of drawn characters over 3D generated (and photoshop filtered) backgrounds, it seems to work well and be faster for them at least once they have all the assets in place :) so seems like a good idea for you to jump on it too

Thanks! :) I haven't had a lot of problems, I think? This HDD was 6 years old, and I haven't lost any data. (though I would have if I had kept using it) The other hard drive that was problematic is an old external. And it turns out, it isn't actually broken, it's just quite slow. So far it still works, after... 15 years or so. But if you have suggestions, I'm all ears.

This is looking great so far! Also you seem to experience a lot of hard drive issues... Might need to offer you a few recommendations on how to keep your data safe.. Hard drives are kinda awful at that..
