I'd like to share a few of my reflections with you.
🕑 Added 2024-04-13 08:55:01 +0000 UTCI was chatting with one of our old subscribers about the content that I upload on Patreon. The question of whether AI art should be published on my page is still open, and I often get messages criticizing it, calling it ugly.
Why do I even publish AI art on Patreon?
Simply because I have it. Can I not do this? Of course. If you don't like it, you can always leave a comment.
Will I stop creating AI art i?
The answer is no. This art has attracted twelve thousand subscribers to my page on DeviantArt, and that number continues to grow. Does it make a difference? Absolutely, it's part of advertising. You always say, "You need advertising!" Who says I don't do advertising?

It's worth noting that I have previously maintained a page on DeviantArt where I published my work created in DAZ 3D. Despite the fact that I'm quite successful at it, I haven't managed to gain subscribers until now.
Nowadays there's a lot of competition on DeviantArt, a lot of people are creating AI art, but despite that, people are viewing my work and subscribing to me. So, I'm pretty good at it, at least compared to the others.
In the past year, my art has been viewed a cumulative five million times. Yes, that may not be the target audience, but within that number, there will be those who follow the links I leave under each post.
And that's despite the fact that I don't do AI art full time. It's just a side job, while my main focus is game development using DAZ 3D. I don't always have enough time and energy to actively update my page. And I don't plan to change my area of work.
Questions of taste:
I'm often told that my 3D art is sincere and "real", while art created with neural networks is supposedly "lifeless" and unattractive. My answer to that is this: when I started getting interested in game development in 2016, I was told the same thing about DAZ 3D. People claimed that models in DAZ looked like plastic, the emotions on their faces were unnatural, and authors using DAZ were supposedly "killing" the industry with their one-size-fits-all games.
However, after only a year, DAZ 3D became the main engine for creating graphics. Why did this happen? Because it's fast. DAZ 3D is relatively easy to learn, and it provides fast rendering. Doesn't that sound familiar to you?
Is it possible to create games using a neural network?
The answer is yes, you can, (there are already examples) but there are certain problems associated with it. First of all, it's about speed. I will be able to create any art in DAZ 3D much faster than in neural network. And most importantly, the result will be stable. To create graphics using a neural network, you have to be either a very laid-back person (and I'm very pedantic in many matters) or you have to be willing to spend a lot more time. At the moment, I don't see the possibility of a serious project on neural networks, even in the long term. However, the technology is growing and progressing rapidly.
Why do I really engage in this?
There are a few reasons, firstly as I said I run a page on DeviantArt, and there they appreciate my AI art.
Secondly, I use AI to improve my own renders. It doesn't always produce the desired results, but I'm still in the learning phase. So, I'm not making art for the game with AI, I’m simply enhancing it.
Something to strive for is a combination of artist and AI. Without that, the neural network won't be able to produce the desired result. Even now, when most game developers have powerful hardware, they sometimes create low quality art. Sometimes it's even worse than what I made for TOML using a graphics card with only 2gb of memory. There's a matter of taste as well. I can make quality art without neural networks, but I can make it even better with it, and that's something to strive for.

These characters are from a canceled project. The project was terminated due to problems that arose with the staff, particularly with the artists. I had to face a series of problems with the people I hired for this job: I was cheated out of money several times, they took an advance payment and disappeared. As a result, I just decided to forget about this project, despite the fact that a lot of work had been done, money spent, and part of the script written. The future:
After the release of the last planned update, I will take a short break, for a couple of weeks. I will get my affairs and health in order, and then we will start a new project, which we will complete. In one form or another. For it, more than one thousand renders, dozens of animations, a prologue, and starting locations are already prepared. As always, it is made in 3D.
The moral of the story:
A subscriber wrote to me that the truth isn't in money. And that's true.
This reminds me of the famous line from the movie "Brother" - "Strength is in truth". However, the truth is that money is needed to be able to work with a scriptwriter, a programmer, and even to lead a normal life. VC 2 was a great game, but it didn't bring in money. The reality is that we were forced to make a difficult decision to freeze the project. My close friend (I rarely call someone a friend) left our team. And it was a very difficult and painful loss for me. Yet it was all about the money. I'd rather have the money than the truth in this case.
We started a new project that was somewhat different from our previous direction. We chose one of the two most popular directions in the hope of earning money. The most popular one was immediately unanimously rejected because it was unpleasant to all team members.
During the break in VC, we were not just sitting around - we were working on a new game in the hope of making a profit from it. Among other things, so that we could finish VC.
Fortunately, we managed, including through advertising, to increase the sales, earn enough money, and complete VC before the start of the new game. Because if we had started a new project, we wouldn’t have returned to VC for a couple more years.
There are some things we can't work with. Incest, for example. Although at the beginning of my career I was different and even worked as a scriptwriter on such a game. But I've matured as a developer. And this is where I'd rather have truth than money. I didn't add the incest theme between Ilga and Kagera or the harem with them, even though I was offered money for it many times. Here I chose the truth.
The real truth is that without money, you have no options left.

Недавно я общался с одним из наших старых подписчиков насчёт контента, который я, в том числе, загружаю на Patreon. Вопрос о целесообразности публикации AI арта на моей странице всё ещё открыт, и я часто получаю сообщения, в которых его критикуют, называя уродливым.
Почему я вообще публикую AI арт на патреон?
Просто потому что у меня он есть. Могу ли я этого не делать? Конечно. Если вам это не нравится, вы всегда можете оставить комментарий.
Перестану ли я создавать AI арт?
Ответ - нет. Этот арт привлек на мою страницу на DeviantArt двенадцать тысяч подписчиков с момента, когда их была всего тысяча, и их число продолжает расти. Имеет ли это значение? Безусловно, это часть рекламы. Вы всегда говорите: "Тебе нужна реклама!" А кто сказал, что я не занимаюсь рекламой?

Стоит отметить, что и ранее я вел свою страницу на DeviantArt, где публиковал свои работы, созданные в DAZ 3D. Несмотря на то, что я довольно успешен в этом, до сих пор мне не удавалось набрать подписчиков.
Сегодня на DeviantArt огромная конкуренция, многие люди создают AI арт. Но, несмотря на это, люди просматривают мою работу и подписываются на меня. Значит я в этом неплох, как минимум на фоне остальных.
За прошедший год мой арт суммарно просмотрели пять миллионов раз. Да, это может быть не совсем целевая аудитория, но из этого числа найдутся те, кто последуют по ссылкам, которые я оставляю под каждым постом.
И это при том, что я не занимаюсь AI артом на полную ставку. Это всего лишь дополнительная работа, в то время как мое основное направление - разработка игр с использованием DAZ 3D. Не всегда у меня есть достаточно времени и сил, чтобы активно обновлять свою страницу. И я не планирую менять область своей деятельности.
Вопросы вкуса:
Мне часто говорят, что мой 3D арт искренний и "настоящий", в то время как искусство, созданное с помощью нейросети, якобы "мертвое" и непривлекательное. На это я отвечу так: когда в 2016 году начал интересоваться разработкой игр, мне говорили то же самое о DAZ 3D. Люди утверждали, что модели в DAZ выглядят как пластик, эмоции на их лицах ненатуральны, и авторы, использующие DAZ, якобы "убивают" индустрию своими однотипными играми.
Однако, спустя всего год, DAZ 3D стал основным движком для создания графики. Почему это произошло? Потому что это быстро. DAZ 3D относительно легко освоить, и он обеспечивает быстрый рендеринг. Разве это вам не знакомо?
Можно ли создавать игры с помощью нейросети?
Ответ - да, можно, (уже есть примеры) но с этим связаны определенные проблемы. В первую очередь, дело в скорости. Я смогу создать любой арт в DAZ 3D гораздо быстрее, чем в нейросети. И самое главное - результат будет стабильным. Чтобы создавать графику с использованием нейросети, вы должны быть либо очень непритязательным человеком (а во многих вопросах я очень педантичен), либо готовы потратить гораздо больше времени. На данный момент я не вижу возможности для серьезного проекта на нейросети, даже в перспективе. Однако технология растет и быстро прогрессирует.
Почему же вообще я этим занимаюсь?
Причин несколько, во-первых как я говорил я веду страницу на девиант арт, а там очень ценят мой арт созданный в AI.
Во-вторых, я использую AI для усовершенствования собственной графики. Не всегда это дает желаемый результат, но я все еще на стадии обучения. Когда я не делаю искусство для игры с помощью AI, но лишь дополняю его.
То, к чему стоит стремиться — это комбинация художника и искусственного интеллекта. Без этого, нейросеть не сможет выдать желаемый результат. Даже сейчас, когда у большинства разработчиков игр есть мощное оборудование, они иногда создают искусство низкого качества. Иногда это даже хуже, чем то, что я сделал для TOML, используя видеокарту с всего 2 гб памяти. Тут дело и в вкусе. Я умею делать качественный арт и без нейросетей, но я могу сделать его еще лучше, а это то, к чему нужно стремиться.

Возможно, некоторые из моих старых подписчиков помнят этот арт:
это персонажи из отмененного проекта. Проект был прекращен из-за проблем, возникших с личным составом, в частности с художниками. Мне пришлось столкнуться с целым рядом проблем с людьми, которых я нанял на эту работу: меня обманули на деньги несколько раз, взяли предоплату и исчезли. В результате я просто решил забыть об этом проекте, несмотря на то, что было сделано много работы, потрачены деньги и написана часть сценария. Будущее:
После выпуска последнего запланированного обновления, я сделаю небольшой перерыв, на пару недель. Приведу в порядок дела и здоровье, после чего мы начнем новый проект, который доведем до конца. В той или иной форме. Для него, готовы уже более тысячи артов, десятки анимаций, пролог и стартовые локации. Он как и ранее, делается в 3D.
Мораль:
Мне написал подписчик, что правда не в деньгах. И это так.
Это, очень напоминает знаменитую фразу из фильма "Брат" - "Сила в правде". Однако сама правда такова: для работы сценариста, программиста, а также для обычной жизни требуются средства. VC 2 был отличной игрой, но не принес денег. И правда такова, что мы вынуждены были принять сложное решение о заморозке проекта. Мой близкий друг (и я нечасто называю людей друзьями) покинул нашу команду.
Мы начали новый проект, который был несколько отличным от нашего предыдущего направления. Но мы выбрали один из двух самых популярных направлений, в надежде заработать. Самый популярный мы сразу отмели единогласно ибо он неприятен всем членам команды.
Во время перерыва в VC мы не просто сидели сложа руки - мы работали над новой игрой с надеждой получить с нее прибыль. В том числе, чтобы потом завершить VC.
Благо удалось, в том числе и за счет рекламы, повысить продажи, заработать денег и завершить VC до старта новой игры. Ибо если бы начали новый проект, то к VC бы не вернулись еще пару лет.
Есть вещи, с которыми мы не можем работать. Например, инцест.
Хотя в начале своей карьеры я был готов и даже работал сценаристом над такой игрой. Но я повзрослел как разработчик. И это тот случай, когда я предпочитаю правду, а не деньги. И я не стал добавлять тему инцеста между Ильгой и Кагерой, а также гарем с ними, хотя мне много раз предлагали за это деньги. Здесь я выбрал правду.
Правда заключается в том, что без денег у вас не остается возможностей.
