Doing the same thing for many years is extremely exhausting. We crave new experiences, new locations, new stories.
The release of the final update obviously brought nothing new. Since I wasn’t expecting anything, I wasn’t disappointed either. We’ve entertained you, brought the project to a decent conclusion, and now we can put a bold period on it. Anything left unresolved, feel free to imagine the rest yourselves. How the upcoming conflict between the mages and the Pure Ones will end, whether Foran will meet his Ilga, and what the outcome of that meeting will be.
Now, let’s turn to the presentation of the new project.
This is the story of a girl, or rather, a young woman named Emma—her twists and turns, her problems, her relationships, and her career. Why such a change?
When the problems began, it became clear that episodes based on VC were no longer needed by players. As many will remember, the decision was made to freeze the project. Novel Games would have ceased to exist, but a new developer with a new game would have emerged.
Why was this particular setting chosen?
Different options were considered. In general, everyone knows that nearly all the money is in “family” games. Any, even the weakest game, will make a lot more money than most games without it. Are there exceptions? Yes, there are. But the exception only confirms the rule. So why not choose it as well?
When I started my journey of being a game developer, I was first hired as a screenwriter for another developer. I was writing a “family” game, a mother-son relationship. At the time, I thought money was tight. Now I look at things a little differently... however, I would do it. But nobody on the team wants to do it.
Could I have gone ahead without asking the others? Sure, but it’s not something that resonates with me either. Teenage themes, for writers in their 40s... we’re too old for that and have long forgotten what the problems of puberty are like. Let's leave that subject to those who truly understand it.
A daughter and father relationship is a taboo for me. I don’t want to get my hands dirty with that, no matter the money.
Brother and sister? Well, that's possible in this project, too. Again, not teenagers.
So, the game is about a woman. Now, many will say they won’t play a game with a female protagonist. We understand and we’re not forcing it on anyone. I love you all, but I’m not going to redo over 1,000 renders that are already finished just because of that. Let me repeat, the project was chosen for the new developer we would have become, and with the new developer, this setting would have posed far fewer problems.
Now we’re approaching the most delicate topic: gameplay and story.
I’m working on a rather complex parameter system that can influence the heroine. I’m not sure if it will work, but I’m going to try. Let me clarify: the complexity isn’t for the player, but for the developer. There will be two modes: Game Mode and Story Mode. In Story Mode, we’ll turn off all checks, so you can just watch the images, and all scenes will unlock regardless of the heroine's development. We’ve heard your feedback, no problem. In Game Mode, you’ll have to balance things. What’s my goal here?
The main issue with games featuring female protagonists is that the woman often turns into a complete slut way too quickly, which makes her uninteresting. But at the same time, we can’t avoid including that kind of content altogether. Here’s how I hope to tackle this issue:
1. A well-developed home for the heroine, with plenty of scenes featuring her husband. One of the biggest problems in such games is that you’re often not given a real choice. You don’t want to explore other options because the husband is a dumb impotent with a small dick. That’s not the case here. While their relationship is somewhat strained by routine, they love each other, and the husband is decent looking as well (though it's hard for me to judge men). Their sex life is good. The challenge is that we’ll be putting them in situations that create problems and temptations. Will it work? We’ll see, but I believe an alternative is necessary.
2. I’ll try to build and balance a system to prevent the heroine’s rapid moral decline. First, there’s no need for it to happen quickly. Second, potential love interests will be normal people. Not every rival will accept a completely fallen heroine. Yes, there will be some casual encounters, but for that, the heroine will first need to significantly lower her moral standards (this won’t apply to Story Mode—there you can do whatever you want). Again, I’ll try to balance the system. It sounds complicated, and in reality, it’s even more so, but I’m eager to try. As a rough reference, I’m looking at some old QSP games. That doesn’t mean you’ll have to manually go to the bathroom or do other tedious tasks. No, I’m referring to a few games where gradual corruption was implemented quite well. Plus, corruption can happen with her husband, too. For example, they might post their home videos or have sex in public places.
So, the plans are ambitious, and I don’t know how it will turn out, but I’m really excited to give it a shot.
And yes, if you’re a tough guy and will never play as a female character, I get it. I’m not exactly a tough guy, but I’m old enough that playing as a teenager spying on his mother doesn’t appeal to me anymore. Sorry about that.
If you’re one of our old fans who’s used to our stories but insists that the protagonist must be male—well, sorry to you too. We are who we are because of life.
Итак, история Форлана, завершилась. Король умер – да здравствует король. Для части игроков это печально, для нас скорее радостно. Делать много лет одно и тоже, крайне выматывает. Хочется новых ощущений, новых локаций, новых историй.
Релиз финального обновления очевидно ничего не принес. Поскольку я ничего не ждал, я ничем и не разочарован. Мы порадовали вас, довели проект до приемлемо финала, на этом можем поставить жирную точку. Все что не раскрыто, можете до–фантазировать. Чем закончится грядущее противостояние магов и Чистых, встретит ли Форан свою Ильгу и чем завершиться эта встреча.
Теперь вернемся к презентации нового проекта.
Это история девушки, а точнее молодой женщины, Эммы. Её хитросплетений, её проблем, её взаимоотношений, её карьеры. Почему был выбран именно такой вариант сеттинга?
Когда начались проблемы, появилось понимание, что эпизоды по VC не нужны игрокам, было как многие помнят принято решение заморозить проект. Novel-games перестало бы существовать, но появился бы новый разработчик с новой игрой.
Рассматривали ли мы иные варианты?
Рассматривались разные варианты. Нам известно, что все деньги, в играх про семейные ценности. Любая, самая слабая игра такого сеттинга, заработает намного больше, большинства игр без него. Есть ли исключения – есть. Но исключение лишь подтверждает правило.
Почему не взяли этот фетиш?
Я когда начинал свой путь в геймдев, сначала нанялся сценаристом к другому разработчику. И как раз я писал игру, про отношения матери и сына. В то время, я считал, что деньги не пахнут. Сейчас я на вещи смотрю немного иначе… впрочем, я бы сделал это. Но в команде никто делать этого не хочет. Мог бы я не спрашивать у остальных? Мог конечно, но мне и самому это не близко. Подростковая тема, для сценаристов за 40… мы для этого старые и забыли, что такое проблемы пубертатного периода. Оставим эту тему тем, кто в ней понимает. Отношения дочери и отца в принципе – табу. Мараться об это я не хочу ни за какие деньги. Брат и сестра? Ну, это и в этом проекте возможно. Опять же, только не подростки.
Итак, игра за женщину.
Сейчас многие скажут, что не будут играть в игру за женщину. Понимаем и не навязываем. Я вас люблю но переделывать из–за вас больше 1000 артов, которые уже готовы, я не буду. Повторю, выбор проекта делался для нового разработчика, которым мы бы стали. И у нового разработчика с сеттингом было бы намного меньше проблем.
Плавно подходим к самой тонкой теме, к геймплею и сюжету.
Я работаю над довольно сложной системой параметров, которые могут влиять на героиню. Я не уверен, что у меня получится, но попытаюсь. Сразу оговорюсь, сложность не для игрока, а для разработчика. Вообще будет два режима. Режим игры и режим истории. В режиме истории, отключим вам все проверки, смотрите картинки, все сцены будут открываться вне зависимости от развития героини. Мы учли ваши замечания, без проблем. В режиме игры, придется балансировать. Что я хочу?
Главная проблема игр за ЖГГ, это то, что женщина крайне быстро превращается в абсолютную шлюху и становится просто не интересной. Но и не давать такой контент тоже нельзя. Как я надеюсь бороться с этой проблемой:
1) Очень проработанный дом главной героини, с множеством сцен с супругом. Вообще одна из главных проблем таких игр, в том что тебе буквально не дают выбора. Тебе не интересно отыгрывать другой вариант, ведь муж тупой импотент с маленьким членом. У нас это не так. Их отношения хоть и страдают немного от быта, но они любят друг друга, муж вполне нормальной внешности (мне сложно оценивать мужчин) и в постели у них всё хорошо. Другой вопрос, что мы будем ставить их в определенные ситуации, создающие проблемы и соблазны. Получится ли? Попробуем. Но я считаю, что нужна альтернатива.
2) Я попробую создать систему и отбалансировать её, чтобы предотвратить чрезмерно быстрое скатывание героини. Во–первых, в этом нет необходимости, во–вторых возможные любовные интересы, это нормальные люди. Далеко не каждый из возможных соперников примут совсем уж скатившуюся героиню. Хотя будут предусмотрены и какие-то разовые знакомства, но опять же героиня должна сначала сильно снизить свои моральные устои (не для режима истории, тут делайте что хотите). Опять же, буду пробовать балансировать эту систему. Звучит сложно, реально ещё сложнее, получится или нет – не знаю, но очень хочется попробовать. В целом какими-то ориентирами служат старые игры на QSP. Это не значит, что нужно будет вручную, ходить в туалет, вытирать попу и другие душные действия. Нет, я имею в виду несколько игр, где было неплохо реализовано плавное развращение. Опять же, развращаться можно и с супругом, и например они могут выкладывать свои хоум видео или заниматься сексом в общественных местах.
В общем планы наполеоновские, что получится не знаю, но очень хочется попробовать.
И да, если ты брутальный мужик и никогда не будешь играть за девушку, я тебя пойму. Я пусть и не брутальный, но со своей стороны уже довольно взрослый, чтобы играть за подростка, который шпионит за матерью. Уж извини.
Если же ты просто наш старый фанат, который привык к нашим историям, но для тебя принципиально чтобы героем был мужчина… ну тоже извини.
Не мы такие – жизнь такая.

I really like this approach and welcome it fully! I might be in the minority but I really want a good story and well-written characters in AVNs, too. Also, I think it's a reasonable demand. :) Why would you (if you are and adult, not an adolescent or a teen) even play AVNs if you don't care for the story? If you are content with beautiful renders or just plain sex scenes without a proper setting or a storyline there are plenty enough places to take care of your needs. :D

Agree with much Huw. VC was truly unique in this genre. It does seem that is was not a big money maker for the team, and the team does know where the money is. Unique take on family drama? The team does seem to be trying. Female protagonist rather than huge dick, super horny guy that all women love immediately? Not college kids? Not single? Not women who are not actually prostitutes, but otherwise act like they are? Corruption is probably not a good word for it. Gradually led astray by life would be better. But, nevermind, Huw, a good compelling story can save the day. We can hope that the final product is not so adventurous as to put off those who simply want to fap.

Ah well, it was the fantasy/historical theme which first attracted me to this genre and "Void's Calling" was my very first encounter and probably not far from the last. The domestic corruption, the absurdly contrived, often sordid, "family" melodramas, the tiresomely perennial juvenile jerk-offs, the indistinguishably interchangeable college sex-fests and most of the unimaginative sci-fi titles hold little or no interest for me. I did enjoy, while they lasted, "Back To The Cabin", " My Sweet Neighbours” and “Our Fate” until each one was sadly abandoned midstream. So, for now, I'll cling to the few crumbs of excellence which manage to endure, for me namely, "Between Worlds" (fantasy) and "On The Prairie" (western) and hope to at least see them through to actual completion. It's been a long, long road I’ve travelled with you and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the virtually endless enchantment of “Void’s Calling” which will forever remain, in my opinion, a shining landmark title amongst the dross of this now, for me, increasingly lacklustre, invariably disappointing genre. I wish you and your illustrious team the very best of good fortune with this new title and the every success in the future.
