Robin Richards

So do remember from the blurb as well as the occasional interlude that something is going to happen with the stalled integration if/when Kaius defeats a guardian. While Kaius plans to defeat the guardian and then go search for his father while waiting to gain his classes, it's pretty certain that that plan is going to get blown up just about the time he kills the guardian

Robin Richards

It may be that their 3 individual champion kills each count in which case they may only need three more to get the second level of solo champion kills

Jordan King

Cool chapter. Just wondering as we have gone 105 chapters and it hasn’t even been a year…are we going to go through the entire “father search” without him having a class and it constantly being alluded to for the equivalent of 2 books? I understand the whole honours thing but if that is the case, it’ll make classes pretty underwhelming if an unlcassed can take on classed opponents for that long. I might just be over the wait for the class to be presented though, so I’ll keep reading to find out.

Aristeidis Tsialos

Tftc! They should exterminate the goblins. Maybe there's an honour for killing every monster in a biome.

Sam A

their path back was a lot less fraught than their initial explanation > exploration*

Loexik

I imagine there is an honour for solo-ing a Guardian (or three) before class selection.

Crapgeezer

Nice chapter! Feels like a good point for a timeskip or a short training montage! And then finally the Guardian fight 🔥💪

IdolTrust

So he still has a year before his class and grinding would be much slower outside of the depth. I wonder what his journeys be like outside

Tommy

Do they have time to traipse around fighting champions? If porkchop’s birthday is coming up and he will be getting his class then, don’t they need to focus on levelling their skills and then fighting the champion so they can do it unclassed? Or am I wrong about Pchops birthday

Tommy

Ah, so when porkchop said he had a few weeks til his birthday, that means they’ve got that time to level up their skills to the max and then take out the champion

CheeseGrater

It might work for future honors, but I imagine the skill isn't retroactive.

Tommy

Woop! I’m excited for the duo to explore the limits / boundaries of their new heroic skill. Time to cap off all the skills through good old fashioned monster grinding. TFTC!

Tristan R Mitchell

They need to kill the Guardian before Porkchop's birthday. Porkchop gets his class a lot sooner than our main guy does.

Tristan R Mitchell

Probably something like "does not count retroactively".

You are exactly right. Also, you mention “roaming dangers like the champion that ambushed Kaius”, but that was not a roaming danger. The vault was a clear signposted champion encounter and Kaius started the encounter by opening the door. So, the depths are, at this point, an excellent training ground that he is refusing for no good reason. Looking for his father won’t be quicker if he leaves weaker but a few months earlier.

seth dauer

Circle around and find new territory, this chapter already confirmed how much faster back tracking through explored territory is. Even a maze of more or less similar rooms

yohan gu

Didn’t know that saying, but I’ll be remembering it. It describes very well how I fell about this rush to go fight the ogre and leave the training grounds

Dax

> When favourable, both parties are treated as a single entity in the eyes of the system. So The System doesn't favorably count their 6 champion group kills as being completed by "a single entity" for the purposes of granting the anticipated 9 solo champion kills Honour? That's a shame.

Alexander Belousov

"than their initial explanation" --> "than their initial exploration", presumably. Right?

Pisces the Nose

I would get it if there was some guarantee that the Depths didn’t like people staying at the same level, which may have been implied in the notion that you could never relax, even though Kaius and Porkchop have at multiple points. Or if the further feats weren’t discussed and didn’t exist, it doesn’t really make sense that a party capable of slaying 9 champions couldn’t do so for 27. It makes some sense that somebody who slayed 3 might have trouble with 9 since they might have worked to pick only good matchups, but again the honor doesn’t need to exist since slaying 3 is proof the first wasn’t a coincidence.

I was hoping they would stay a bit longer, maybe fight a few more champions. They only need a few more to get the next Honour. And who knows what's waiting for them on the outside. As the saying goes, "Sharpening the axe does not delay the cutting of the wood".

Pisces the Nose

So they’re not going for the Honour upgrade in the process of leveling up skills? Especially when they’re far stronger and faster moving with more material comforts? Feelsbad but I guess the search for his dad is that important and not at all going to take a long time. Like the end goal is going to require Kaius to be much stronger(presumably above tier 1, which means capping his skills at 200) so why not permanently increase his rate of improvement. Finally, Kaius said he has the stats of a low leveled classed, who for the sake of argument can have higher skills of a worse quality so let’s say is roughly the same skill wise. It’s supposed to take a full party (3 or 5?) at or above the level of a guardian to beat it, so by the logic we’ve been given so far it’s still a long shot for Kaius and Porkchop. The only thing I can really see stopping them from exploring more biomes is the threat of a roaming Guardian with similar abilities to the Champion that ambushed Kaius outside the vault, but that possibility hasn’t been brought up yet. I get that from a writing viewpoint more Champion fights would be low stakes, and six more is a lot, but Kaius has been working very hard to optimize his build, not just finish it, and not just to beat the Guardian, so giving up what seems like such a relatively low risk Honour when he won’t even have a class to grow for the next year(except he will since beating the guardian is being foreshadowed to give that, but he doesn’t know) feels very illogical.
