Gunna have to disagree on this one, he basicly did have to do crafting to facilitate the upgrade, via the soul-Linking rune (runic inscriptions are a craft) so his sword could absorb the material, it wasn't possible before. And for the rest of the examples unless he's gunna put a rune on the enemies, his colon and his junk, the toilet and he's wife's junk, I highly doubt there will be more "Ding do a Thing" Justifications.

TFTC, but why do they not use there tent?

> **Ding! Material appropriate for A Father’s Gift detected! Facilitate absorption?** Sorry, *deeply* dislike like this - it feels like he is now living in a [Digital Video Game World] not a real one. This is a *crafting* job on existing artisan created artefact (not a system created artefact) and he should either put in crafting effort or delegate the job to a real enchanter. If the System directly assists in this sort of endeavor, then it might as well replace all artisans and all actions. This can equally apply anywhere else with the same level of justification: Enemy detected! Facilitate combat ? Bathtub detected! Facilitate cleansing ? Toilet detected ! Facilitate Defecation ? Wife detected! Facilitate Impregnation ? I have seen this happen too many times in System stories. For no reason at all, the MC gets the System to wipe his ass for him.

Fair enough!

he's still recognisably a meles, but most people haven't even heard of them - let alone know what they look like - outside of people whose job it is to know those things. Like, they are semi mythical even for the communities that directly border the sea because of how insular they are.

....I can't help but feel that giant badgers in particular must not have that many analogues, but far be it from me to argue with the dude whose head this story lives in. :P

Bacon Macleod

Nah, trained beasts aren't all that rare with wealthy caravaneers, and bonded beasts are uncommon but not super super rare with delvers and others etc - he'll get some eyes, but most will assume he's just some weird war-beast rather than a sapient greater beast (or so kaius hopes) This is discussed a lot more in the coming chapters

the fadinging luminance -> fading luminescence? tftc

...and the fact that he's an SUV sized *badger* isn't going to clue anyone else in?

My only concern is the leaving Ianmus out of the city. All too easy for him to think they are preventing him every as that was his original goal. Maybe better as a discussion together, how to deal with guards and porkchop being a greater beast
