Joshua Little

Thanks for the chapter.

I. T

Make sense ngl thanks for the answer

Bacon Macleod

too anachronistic, leagues at least have the fantasy lineage. If it helps, a long-stride is literally just a meter, same with a stride and a foot

IdolTrust

That is high ass level and that isn’t a boss. Hopefully there are too many of those on there.

I. T

I understand that using certain terms is immersive, but simply using the universal metric system?

Memnun

a league would be about the theoretical upper limit before your target gets occluded by the horizon, assuming an earth-sized planet. or I guess any planet, since the league was initially defined by the romans as the Distance To The Horizon, so kaius's league may be different to our own!

Memnun

and ten of them is still slightly less than a marathon, something normal earth humans can complete in a handful of hours with normal earth training and physiques. kaius and ianmus are 6.5'+ with magically enchanted strength and endurance, it's totally reasonable within the logic of the narrative

BelligerentGnu

Uhhhh.....that seems a tad much, guys, even for you.

sings_with_toads

Does our intrepid hero have fangs now? I knew he had bloodlust but damn, that escalated quickly ;-)

Bacon Macleod

Well, the modern version - a league is a very old measurement that was roughly the distance a man could travel over land in an hour. Roman leagues, for example, were aprox 2.2km - I've been using it as that equivalent. But yes, that's how far away Ianmus could hit something, with a fully channelled beam - but it would be no where near as effective as it is at 'close' distance. Even modern leagues differ reasonably (anywhere from 3.9 to 6.7km depending on country and usage). Hell, so do miles - even if you take legal miles, they differ by a couple dozen mm between UK and US

Marc Savage

You know a league is 3 miles or 4.8km

Bacon Macleod

That's absolute theoretical maximum - it's going to be dealing with fall off, dispersion, and aiming issues at that range. I've also been using the old definition of league, which is the distance a man can walk overland in an hour (aprox just under half a modern league) I will admit that its liable to being retconned if I find it categorically doesn't work

lenkite

> he’d had to be rather forceful when Porkchop had gotten fixated on the prospect of ‘free honey, literally just sitting there’. Should not be an issue with their [Health]. And if they can't handle a swarm of mundane bees, then it means the [Mage] really needs to learn something like [Basic Mana Shield].

Jon Simpson

Pfft, only a piddling 50 levels! Looking forwards to this one, and the loot afterwards!

Alexander Belousov

There is nothing wrong with dyslexia, good sir. Some of my best friends are dyslexics. For example, me. Yes, I am one of my best friends. And as the dyslexic slogan goes, "dyslexics of the world untie!"

Vayash

Just asking because he says 'about a league' when asked for distance. And that's about 4.5-5km.

Bacon Macleod

they got a fair bit closer - 300 long-strides (300 meters). Effective range for the blast is about double that before it starts to quickly lose coherency (at his level, and for his long charge time attack). One of the strengths of affinities like light and solar(which is somewhere between light and nature) is range and travel distance

Bacon Macleod

Dyslexia, my greatest nemesis

Vayash

He can hit things with that beam from ~5km???

Alexander Belousov

"actively dripping to pool in the boroughs of the trunk beneath it" --> "actively dripping to pool in the boughs of the trunk beneath it", presumably. If the trunk actually has its own borough, then it is a World Tree. No smaller tree than that comes with its own zip code.

Kronos

Ha! Now that might actually make for a decent challenge!

Ryan Berends

Time to start force feeding our dear Ianmus. Thanks for the chapter!
