They get resistance and sparring training. Nothing about tactics. Then they are sent out with terrible intelligence into a volital time sensitive situation, on purpose. It's ridiculous.

Richard Reid

OK, so the guild sucks. There is a way to train people, and this is not it.

Isaac Boyles

Hey that's actually super helpful thanks, I've got a writing project I'm working on putting together this year

So what you are saying is that they were overconfident and didn't learn the lesson of humility that was the whole point of the last story arc...

Joshua Little

Thanks for the chapter.

Anime Problem

If they would have done anything other than just walk through the front door and attack the horde directly they would have passed this test with ease.

Anime Problem

No the lesson here was maybe don't bum rush a literal horde. The guild master wanted to see if they would play this smart or not and they literally went with a frontal assault. They did it with a little stealth if you consider going through the front entrance quietly stealthy. They should have picked the hordes raiding parties off to force them to send out their stronger members they should have poisoned the food.

Anime Problem

Or and hear me out she sent them there because it was a test to see if they'd do the smart thing or just try to bum rush this and well they learned that was a stupid idea pretty quickly. She also hasn't lied to them constantly she sent them on a slightly more dangerous mission than they were initially told which should have been pretty obvious to the MCs from the first raiding party they saw. A mission that if they played it even halfway smart would have been easy to complete just would have required more time investment which they need to waste a bit of time anyway because advancing fast is technically smart just incredibly stupid at this time when you consider that their time-frame for success and saving lives is decades not days.

hmDrake

I agree, this feels excessive in the 'hard lessons' trope

BelligerentGnu

It's the method, dude. The *method* by which she tries to help. You can't teach someone by constantly lying to them.

BelligerentGnu

Fucking hell yes, exactly this. Send them out with a speech about how nothing but victory will be accepted, to a mission that you expect them to fail? Again, *where is the consideration of trust*? Do you *want* the team to never take you at your word again?

Story Arc makes no sense. The Guildmaster beat the shit out of them and cut off MC's hand to humble them. Then they get trained before being sent on a no win mission to do what exactly? Teach them the exact same lesson they had supposedly learned in the last story arc?? I don't understand the purpose of this...

Paul

I understand they needed to test their limits, and now is a better time than in one where they would get killed, but the taste of failure is still bitter no matter what for our heroes

Tim Judge

Nice. Shows the room for the expansion of the teams capabilities. Ianmus seems to have learnt one of the important lessons for my trainees. Good enuff now is better than perfect later.

Anime Problem

I genuinely like Ro i don't get why so many people are so vehemently against her she's just someone dealing with what would basically appear like insanity from the MCs and also a customer service job as a manager. She's snappish sure but that's pretty normal for that type of work she also isn't unreasonable and is trying to help the MCs from getting themselves killed
