Zurko

Honestly I thought he should have gotten bell-toll blitz. It's basically a 5x multiplier to whatever his sword is doing. It's not great right now because his sword is weak, but as he gets skill that buff his sword and give it more effects, it'll be insanely powerful.

MrDragondude5

maybe you can make pokchops skill a conditional channel like he could channel mana into it to repair it or something?

DeadicatedReader

I feel like they could have called her shortly before attempting the ambush. Because either they succeed and the wait is less long or they fail and Ro can bail them out of danger.

Thanks for the chapter.

It's not a spell - some skills do use mana. Spells are basically weaving raw mana to create an effect - either with the systems guidance (sorcery, and to a lesser extent Kaius's direct teaching of spellhymns), or by pure knowledge (free casting, other forms of glyph binding). Also, most spells break the limits of skill slots in some way (free casting you essentially get unlimited spells from a single general skill, ignoring that most people are going to support it with additional skills, same with more 'traditional' glyph binding. A lot of sorcery also gets multiple spells under 1 skill (similar to kaius's glyphs, though they may get more spells more or less frequently than every 100 skill levels - Ianmus's sorcery's will unlock additional spells in t2 for example, in addition to what ever effects skill evolution will have) This is distinct from skills, which while they gain additional effects as they move up in tier (in addition to evolution changes), is much more focused on expansion of existing abilities, rather than wholey distinct spells. This comment does make me realise I need to clarify this better in text though - i'll try to do that early book 3 in some convo's I have planned between Ianmus and Kaius. Also, in the ebook version, I will probably change Porkchop's armour skill to not require channeling, as I am realising that it probably murkies the water a fair bit on skill vs spell identity. Interested to hear yours or others thoughts on ways to keep mana using skills and spells distinct, or when it makes more sense for a skill to use stamina instead of mana

Thanatos

Egg on my face there, somehow didn’t see it

Dax

I'm confused. His new skill is an instant spell that buffs his sword for an attack. It's not a glyph, and it doesn't require channeling or imbuement into an item. It seems to bypass all the existing restrictions of magic you've established thus far.

Trust the Bacon!

(Makes me wonder if cutting himself also triggers the explosion, which would be useful. And he could use Arcane blight to level Rapid Adaptation)

Good choices, each one had good reasons to be picked, depending on the enemies Kaius expected to face, flurry for human swordsmen where what matters is to be able land a hit, Siege Breaker Thrust for heavily armored or very tough opponents and mystic rend for large creatures that he can pierce with moderate effort. Maybe the explosion also works as a small AOE, so it could come handy, even if the trigger is a bit complex.

yohan gu

It was a choice. Heavily in favor of mystic rend, sure, but Siege Breaker Trust was excellent as well. It's the first time we see "Greatly" as a per level modifier, it solves Kaius' biggest problem until now - that of not being able to actually damage his enemies - and gives him an extra meter of range or penetration at level 0, with 3 more by level 200. Extreme levels of penetration and range/depth. Of course, Mystic rend is still better because, in case of penetration, which is slightly aided, the internal damage wrought is far superior.

"Having already activated their communication token to summon Ro, they could only wait for her arrival" They contacted her

Adunn

That wasn’t even a choice lol. The last skill was the most impressive ability wise and it’s also less than half the mana cost of the others.

Thanatos

A mistake to not call Ro via the item they were given already, there's no need to delay it. This will probably let Ingle run off to report to Grave-eye instead of being caught by Ro.

I like the skills (: hoping porkchops are also just as interesting
