I’ll be honest, a third of the chapter dedicated to how the rune of the door work is a bit much..

"He might have lacked a tenth of the experience and Skill required to create something like this", ....... I'm not sure this is saying what you're intending. The way it is now looks like that he's 90% there..... "He might have only a tenth of the experience" might be better? Or " lacked even a tenth" Sorry for bad formatting. Phone

Been wondering for a while: why are runic formations so exposed and visible? Same door, half the complexity of the formation, written on the inside, with maybe the wardstone's keypoint/whatever other requirements there are for entry wrapping around the side to be brought outside, and you get a solution that's both cheaper and more effective. Or, if that doesn't work for some reason, why not put in a second door, unprotected by anything more serious than a properly designed but mundane lock - simply there to discourage casual interest and keep people wondering what the actual defenses are like. Add 'here, this is pretty to mana sight' type of runework as necessary to mess with ocular skills. Frankly, trusting high level runework when runewrights are a known risk is a questionable choice, especially when it's so easy to augment them with conventional methods. So why isn't this common practice?

It's def getting tweaked in the ebook - its a factor that this was initially written as the start of book 3, not the end of book 2. If you think about the start of B1, it took him some ~10 chapters to kill a few random undead and train up a skill. Start of b2, reaching deadacre took aprox 25 chapters etc. The focus when writing these was internal character work, and devoting time for that means less words available to progress material actions, so that the characters are positioned for going balls deep on chaotic action for the rest of the book.

Is it me or did the pacing take a sky dive? I feel like the last 8 chapters could have been done in 3. It’s moving at a snails pace, or am I tripping?

Thanks for the chapter.
