I would love to see some concept art of what Kaius looks like with his tattoos

Kell Finn

Especially for once he gets even more fast movement/teleportation spells. And he might even be able to use it to speed up his process of inscribing Glyphs.

Joshua Little

Thanks for the chapter.

Toknightly

Honestly the quickened thoughts just sounds best anyway. Synergy

Bigdad

Tyftc. I think faster thoughts or mind spike are the good to go. Mind magic is bad aoe option, better go with elemental of physical aoe. so one potent mind spell is the best option. Or faster thoughts when he fights stronger enemies. He needs that to spam his spells and react to their speed

Fire magic is always my go to actually horrific but totally accepted fantasy magic. Destroy cities? Check Painful? Excruciating Disfiguring? Not only that but impairing. And about a dozen other awful consequences. I think the issue isn't the damage, but that everyone knows when someone is injured by fire. When their house burns down with everything they own.

I'm simply waiting for Ian to simply point out obvious. Stronger opponents resists and when Kaius is going to need that thing with lower level opponents. There's one obvious choice. Faster thoughts. I remember how a powerful mage in our Rolemaster group simply casted one spell all the time. Haste. Nothing else had anything similar effect. The number of attacks frontline did was insane. That's only thing that's immediately useful. Second possible way of looking is considering affinities. And seeing that FATE affinity could be really interesting in the future. Or something about being Mental and Senses could be interesting choice to affect future direction.

strange, i really thought quickened thoughts would be the best choice here especially with kaius wanting to train his body to instantly react to his thoughts in combat. it would be a way for him to constantly train that. mind spike and zone of discombobulating are fine but zone felt weak to me in that it will inherently mean pork chop won’t be able to get in there and do his thing. sure it seems good for aoe w weaker enemies but overall quickened thoughts seems much better for the build. kaius is def being a bit dramatic but i understand the thought process. absolute power can corrupt. and access to manipulating others’ thoughts down the line? i get it feeling wrong. if anything i thought this could be a potential for kaius to awaken to his spirit aspect. realizing that mental manipulation is not in his spirit, not in the spirit of a good fight, makes sense to me. i can still see the zone being used well but i still think with kaius being such a training maniac, him always being able to think faster than he would normally will help him always push his body to react quicker to his thoughts. plus damn the leadership potential! taking in a fight and using that ability immediately to analyze and come up w a plan of attack? it’s great for a leader!

Tftc Flashed past through his mind, memories filling his mind of the curves of sacred geometry and runes he would need to reinscribe the glyph. -> Reads awkwardly to me due to the first part. Perhaps this? Memories filled his mind with the curves of sacred geometry and the runes he would need to reinscribe the glyph. He paused to gather his words.” -> unneeded "

BelligerentGnu

Zone strikes me as a bad choice. It's weak against stronger opponents, and small enough that they can just leave. Quickened Thoughts strikes me as best but failing that, mind spike.

BelligerentGnu

Too much slice of life? Too emotional? *This* book? *blinks* Dude, you may be better off with video games. Dungeon Siege may be to your taste.

Adunn

I’d have gone with mindspike. Easier to discombobulate someone when they can’t escape it.

Isaac Boyles

I'm glad he spent some time considering the implications. I think he's right to be concerned, but I also think his team is at least somewhat right

ManguKing

Honestly the only thing that attacks in groups tends to be beast and they are dumb as is, so mind spike is the better option. And I'm done with this novel. Too much drama. Too much crying, too much slice of life, too much childish behavior based on the mindset around kids of today rather than a realistic projection of the culture within the world. I'm not saying that the story sucks, I'm saying that it sucks for me. Which does not say much cause Battle Through the Heavens made me puke with how bad I found it, but it is one of the most selling wuxia ever. So dont mind my taste buds

Samuel Lévesque

The spell description have the wrong glyph listed.

yohan gu

I agree that mind magic does not seem particularly vicious and also that the team is wrong in dismissing the possibility of a good person becoming evil as power corrupts them. But: people can have that opinion about some immutable nature of each person and, if that lets Kaius get mind magic, I’m all for it. Manipulate him with wrong philosophies, I want cool spells!

yohan gu

The thing is, with his intelligence score and BIA, speed of thought is not a problem

M van Dongen

Well. The mindspike is valuable as it allows him to both damage a single target directly without it's armor interfering and open it up to further attack from his team. The zone of discombulation widens his powers for some area and some mass mob control....a weakness for the team. But the Quickened thoughts is the real gem I think. It allows him to gather information and plan during a fight.....and at his level 30 seconds is an eternity vs. Weaker Groups anyway. But it's also applicable to fight vs Fewer strong opponents. It both enables him to function better as a solo combatant and it allows him to function better as a team leader.

Pandelion

If i have to be honest, I understand his doubts about what he may become and think the rest are a bit misguided with being so sure that tyrants weren't good in the first place, everyone is the hero of their own story and small steps lead down a slippery slope. The world is rarely so black and white as people who become bad were never good in the first place. Having said that, what i don't share is his worry about mind magic specifically. Like, reading someone's mind is fucked up sure... but so is killing them. Not being able to do mind magic doesn't exactly stop him from just killing people if they get in his way.
