Direction of Wanton Cove
🕑 Added 2017-11-16 05:56:22 +0000 UTC Since we are nearing the end of the main narrative of The Allure of Wanton Cove, I thought I'd give you guys a little peak into what is still planned for the setting, as well as give all of you a say in what comes next.The poll lists the things I would still like to do with the setting once the main story is complete. Some of them are small items that will resolve themselves in just a few scenes, others will be considerably more substantial.
Some brief information about each item:
Waterfront Investigation: At present, we've only had a taste of what was going on with the first body on the waterfront. This would be a mid sized story arc that would allow the player to learn more about what happened.
Fountain/Ruins investigation: There are hints and comments about there being ruins that predate the town on the island. Strange runes, the fountain, and a few other things. There is much more to learn about those runes and ruins. This would potentially be a fairly large story arc.
Cobb Investigation: Learning more about what happened to Cobb between your meetings with him, and his eventual fate. This would be a somewhat short story arc.
Azumi Investigation: Learn more about her origins, how she came to be the way she is. Who was her mother? Those kinds of things. This would be a mid sized story arc.
Mr Jackobson Followup: After he goes missing, and receiving slightly different stories from a couple of the residents in town, I plan to allow the player to try to discover what happened to Mr Jackobson. Where did he go? Why? And what was his eventual fate? This would be a short, maybe mid sized story arc.
Tom's Tale: In spite of him being the reason you come to Wanton Cove in the first place (Well, part of the reason anyway.)we've learned precious little so far as to the how and why of his arrival in Wanton Cove. This would likely be a longish story arc.
Pastor's Story: What really happened to the Pastor? What drove the once pure man to go down such a dark path? This would be a mid sized story arc.
Focus on Improvements: Probably the biggest thing I still have planned for the setting is a long list of improvements for the game. Everything from creating alternate text for some scenes to avoid content feeling old, to adding additional dialogue for NPCs, to a new way to earn money, extra sex scenes for existing and new NPCs, work more skill checks/madness checks/etc into existing content, and a host of other things.
How I see it, The Allure of Wanton Cove is 2/3 complete right now, even if the main story running through the game is nearly done. We've got a lot of work ahead of us still, and once the main narrative is complete, your votes will determine where my attention shifts as we begin to explore some of the mysteries of Wanton Cove.
My plan is to look at this poll in a few days to determine a winner, then I'll begin planning and storyboarding what comes next as I finish the main branch of the game.

The main narrative will be by far the largest of the story arcs going into the game, both in scope and scale. From the start of the game, I have been laying plot hooks. Sometimes I've followed them a little bit, other times Ive just left them be. I figured that if people were interested in seeing the game continue, then I could explore those little side stories at a later time, but completing the main narrative has been the priority. After all, I want a "Complete" game so people can experience the entire story, even if I effectively add DLC to the game after the fact. ;)

So excited to see this coming to it's first checkpoint! Been holding off on playing so I'd get all the new content at once and I can't wait :). And so glad that after that it will keep going with a whole new ark or three!

That we will! With the endings I have planned, I hope to present a unique and meaningful ending to reward people at all three Taint ranges (I group taint in High + 95/Mid = 94-31/Low -30 groupings).

Well some small shred of sanity and surviving the experience. I don't care about retaining the original gender since mine is totally female at the moment, but with only 2 madness and has wisely decided not to "go for the goo" whenever she sees it. We will see, though, won't we?

Thank you for the kind words, I am glad you are enjoying the game so far! If by "positive" ending you mean surviving the experience with some small shred of sanity and your starting gender at least mostly intact, . . . . Well, you'll just have to see. At present, I have three distinct endings planned for the story's climax that are dependent on your state of TF when you enter the final scene of the game. ;)

It is a wonderful, brilliantly written game. I do hope there is at least one positive ending possible when all is complete. Until then, I am thoroughly enjoying the journey.

Thank you for your votes. I have to admit, when I put a poll up, I usually have a really good idea of how its going to end. This one is very interesting since I really didn't have any expectations going into it. I'm excited to see how it looks in a few days.

I hope to explore all of those as well. I see the above list as the list of things that need to go into the game before I personally feel the game is "Complete" though if people still want to see more once all of those have been explored, then I have a lot of other mysteries I've laid plot hooks for as well. I figure for a game like this, I want to create at least one mystery for every one that is solved, and I've barely scratched the surface of my original ideas for the setting, let alone everything else I've thought of since. As far as I am concerned, I'll be happy to keep creating new content for the game so long as people are interested in seeing more. :D

I took advantage of the word "items" and voted for the four I would like most, although my first choice was Focus on Improvements. I would love to see all of them, but I am hoping the ones I chose will help.
