Wow this was a difficult episode to listen to. The guidance by Dr Damon Korb was incredible and makes so much sense and while listening to it I felt sadness and a sense of grief as I reflected and realized my parents (primarily my mom) did not do any of these things for myself or my sisters. In fact quite the opposite. Dictating, no privacy, wanting to do everything for us and we weren’t really allowed to be independent down to being able to see friends, move around the house or have a job. I recognize I have a bit of trauma from this that still sits in my body and hearing how well someone can navigate parenting and realizing you got the opposite is just a bit sad for my own inner child. But it’s been insightful and enlightening when thinking about how might we help children develop a problem solving state of mind. Otherwise the repercussions into adult hood can be difficult to experience.
