Enjoyed this very much. Would just like to query though, your assertion that the term "parenting" refers to a specific way of relating to one's children. Which you seem to define as being dictatorial and disciplinarian or controlling. I don't know whether this is a US / UK difference but my (UK) perception of the term parenting is that even choices to help children gently through life, such as by modelling to them the benefits of not having too much stuff and discussing how great is feels to donate toys children no longer play with, because it makes lots of other kids happy IS a parenting style. There are many different parenting styles out there, and the word, to me at least, applies equally to gentle, supportive styles, just as it does to strictly disciplinarian styles.
