I just listened to this podcast yesterday and just received my “Love People Use Things” today (it’s July 13th). I figured I’d share because it was preordered for me for Christmas last year. It was my second Christmas as a minimalist and my family is becoming more accepting of my minimalist lifestyle. It helps that they typically ask me what I want for Christmas which is now usually just a couple books, skincare products, and makeup refills. My parents usually spend about $100-$150 on each family member (me, my husband, my sister and her family). Well this past Christmas I had very few gifts which I think made my mom uncomfortable but I expressed to her that I was so happy to receive a few gifts I was super excited about rather than getting more things but stuff I didn’t really enjoy as much. She agreed and I think it made her feel good to hear that. She grew up poor and so I think she feels weird about there not being enough gifts under the tree since she’s always tried so hard to give us a better life (and has always done a great job). Anyway, they wrapped a copy of the order up for me to open and I was super excited. Plus in this case I had something to look forward to and it’s like a little Christmas in July;p I’m super excited to enjoy this new book (although I’m almost finished with Jamie Wheal’s “Recapture the Rapture” which I got after hearing y’all’s amazing podcast with him, so maybe I’ll finish that first).

The best gift I've ever received was a Lego my son made for me. He put a road trip's worth of time into making it, and even made a box out of Legos. It wasn't the Lego itself, it was just that moment of joy when I was reminded of his creativity and thoughtfulness. The feeling in my chest as I really appreciated his growing personality I can still feel when I think about it.
