Thank you so much for taking the time to respond and elaborate, that makes a lotta sense! Dekaranger was my first tokusatsu series and I have noticed its pacing and scope differing from previous Sentai I’ve gotten around to watching.

I think I was maybe thinking about Super Sentai in particular and Dekaranger being kind of a landmark show in that franchise where it was willing to incorporate more characters into the team, also it's got a pretty kinetic pace. It's kind of an incomplete thought that is kinda looped into the entire early-to-mid 2000s being a pretty exciting time for the genre, especially when it comes to what Toei was doing with their shows at the time. Don't exactly remember the context in the episode but hope that helps!

Re-listening to this episode, I’m curious to know more about what Nicky means when they mention Dekaranger being a tide change for toku.

I kinda agree about being fine with Gamera remaining dormant. I like that the series' sole legacy will be suitmation movies, that being a Gamera fan is to be a fan of people in suits acting amidst beautifully crafted miniatures and effects. The Heisei movies represent an absolutele peak in that. Meanwhile I wouldn't want to state in a public setting being a Godzilla fan since people would just assume I'm talking about the Monsterverse movies, sigh... The best I can hope for with Toho is that they allow domestic creators to make 1 new (non-animated) Godzilla movie every 10-15 years or so to give it a modern update and really experiment with what a Godzilla movie can be. I realize the US movies are their new permanent flagship series (because capitalism), but I hope they at least realize what the domestic series represents for Japanese cinema, and not just relegate it to animated productions.
