Home Efficiency Update Mockup
🕑 Added 2018-12-04 15:00:03 +0000 UTC Welcome to the future! I'm pretty excited to share this mockup of what I'd like to bring in beestat 1.3. Here's a quick rundown of the features:- Select a date range for your own home efficiency profile. By default this will use the last year of data, but date ranges will allow you to customize further so you can better analyze how changes to your home affect efficiency.
- Select comparison properties like region and home type. This gives you better insight into what exactly the comparisons are doing as well as the power to see how you stack up against others.
- See individual scores for heating, cooling, and insulation. Your score is your "percentile", which means how you compare to everyone else in your comparison group. The closer to 100 you get the better.
- See graphs for the above scores to see exactly where you line up on the bell curve.
- See a full detail graph of your home efficiency. Right now this is mocked up as the graph that's in beestat today, but this graph would actually include one line for each score.
The goal is to give you transparent access to your home's efficiency profile like you've never seen before. Both Nest and Ecobee presently rate you on how much you saved based completely on how much your setpoint differs from 72°F. This is fine if you're simply trying to encourage people to configure their setpoints lower (which saves money and energy), but it doesn't give you a true picture of your home. Setting your heat lower in the Winter doesn't make your home any more efficient than anyone else; it just makes you colder!
Please let me know what you think! I have a good amount of work ahead of me to make this happen, but nothing too hard. Looking forward to building this out!

Hey Vince! Thanks for your support and feedback! I think my proposal does what you're thinking. The "Homes like mine" and "Nearby" options would be what you use to pick homes that have similar characteristics and are close to you geographically. I agree that just using state/province isn't great because some states have quite different climates across them.
This is going to be awesome! I really like the content for the different graphs. Maybe having an additional filter to compare to similar sized homes in the area. As in # of miles away from your zip code would be a good one too.
Hey Igor. Thanks for your support! Insulation score is basically what beestat shows you right now. It is evaluated by looking at the temperature change in your home when your thermostat is completely off for some minimum amount of time.
Hi Jon, that's one of the best feature I found in your App (probably after the excellent visualization of thermostat activities and temperature changes). I'm curious how you are going to evaluate insulation score? Based on what information? I guess you should have in your hands only temprature change stats and you can look for all changes when HVAC is off.
